I changed the difficulty to Experienced and Rua took me down quite a bit. He Even made me tap with an armbar. Maybe I'm striking too wildly, but I haven't had a match go to decision.

Definitely made the game more realistic. It was hard to get Rua to stand up and fight.

I'm going to have to try that tonight.
This game is incredibly detailed. If you haven't already pause the fight and look at each fighters move list. It's insanely complex, but at the same time very natural. I can't wait for the full game. I was expecting to be slightly dissappointed after all the hype, but it's every bit as good as I've heard.
Rua's flying knees are fun to use. And it'll take a while to master the ground game.

Has anyone been able to submit anyone yet?! I've tried both tapping X or spinning the right stick and can't lock one in. I understand submissions being difficult but damn, I wasn't expecting it to be impossible.
I imagine it'd be easier to submit another player rather than the CPU though.

not yet, but I'm going to look more at the specific fighter controls on the ground and try. I couldn't get a submission or take the fight the distance, but only played for about an hour.

Me and some of my buddies played last night after we got in from the bar. I ended up submitting both of em. It's alot harder, but you have to tap fast as hell. And depending on what position your in, makes it either easier or harder. Both times, i was on my back, and i got some arm submission, don't know the name of it.

Guess I'll just have to work on how fast I tap the buttons. Haven't really needed it since Metal Gear Solid 1 when Snake's being shocked.

yeah, that part kind of sucks, i may need a new controller

I was thinking of picking up one of those controllers with the "rapid fire" feature for the buttons.

They need to tweak the submissions. It's damn near impossible to land one. When they go into the little "he's almost out" animation and the screen goes gray, you'd figure a sub would be sure bet. Even with that, you'll get reversed unless you go crazy on the button mashing (even on beginner). It's relatively easy to land one shot, spectacular knockouts, but basically impossible to sink in a kimura on a guy who is half conscious. That's something they should be able to adjust and at the least, they can have sliders. And while it may partially be due to Chuck having good sub defense, if you look at the ratings, Rua's sub offense is higher than Chuck's defense. In spite of that, I'm impressed with the game overall. It's incredibly deep.

I bumped it to Expert and lost about 18 out of 20 to the computer...
I one shot KOd Shogun once in the third, once in the first.
My favorite fight was playing as Shogun... lost a UD 29-28 on all three cards to Chuck... But it was fun battling the whole time.
And the way to land a submission is not by mashing buttons... you gotta roll the R analog stick. mashing buttons only sloppily escapes submissions

It must be pretty cool knowing you will be able to play with yourself on the game.

KB, kind of off topic, but I'm planing a trip to Vegas in July. The week I go is flexible and I definitely wouldn't mind going the week of UFC 100. I couldn't afford to go to the actual event (at least with prices what they are now), but I am interested in the UFC Fan Expo planned for that Friday and Saturday. There's not much info on the site as far as guest appearances and meet and greets with fighter go.
Do you have any idea of who's going to be at that or what the big event would be?

According to the tutorial, you can land subs by button mashing or rolling the R stick and you can escape them the same way. It actually says you have a higher chance of landing one through button mashing, but you'll end up in a worse position if you miss. The "technical" R stick method is better in that you don't automatically lose position when you miss, but it's supposed to have a lower success rate. I have yet to submit Chuck with the R stick method (this is the way I tried at first b/c of the inconvenience of button mashing). It seems to be a pretty common issue from what I've seen. I don't think it'd be hard for them to tweak. But damn, I've got to say, it's better than I thought it'd be. They clearly did their homework. I've already played the demo for several hours and can't imagine the replay value with online play and 78 more fighters to choose from.

Has anybody read anything as far as how in depth the create a fighter will be? I think it would be awesome if you could upload your entrance music (a la NCAA football and the custom stadium sounds feature).

Actually, the demo says nothing about button mashing to finish a submission being higher percentage, nor does it say anything about landing you in a worse position.
Only says this about using the buttons to escape submissions.
And for UFC 100, and the expo going on that weekend will be well attended by all the big name guys. You can believe that. Biggest card of the year, and maybe of the UFCs history. There will be plenty of celebs in the audience. All the fighers will want to be seen on TV at that event.
some will be asked by the UFC to do a 2 hour appearance at the expo, and most will gladly help out for some ring side tickets, some tv time, and a few extra bucks
