Did you ever explain the problem with ATK? I looked but it seemed all of your advice was geared towards Lynyrd's phone.

Ok these two.. while great, will cause memory problems, and run your GPU into the ground. I always recommend: Do NOT open something unless you know what it is, and do NOT download apps unless you know the developer.. if you do both of those: these apps are not needed.

Weather
Switch to Weather Bug, it is less invasive, and it doesn't crash as much. It has also been written with GB in mind, and is able to be stored in the memory a good bit better.

While the stock app is ok.. switch to Handcent SMS.. you wont be disappointed.

Swype Keyboard 6.3
I'm personally not a fan of this keyboard, but if you are, this is a fine and dandy app, but hopefully it is not running down your GPU while running the background.

I try but who's to know who are good developers and who aren't. I may take them off. Just like the feel of knowing if I screw up...something will let me know.

Weather
Its just the stock one that came with the phone...accu-weather I think. Where do I find it to delete it

Again, stock...how do I delete it?

eta: Went into manage apps under all...can't uninstall weather or swype...just force close them. Will the task killer keep them off?

Ok.. since Froyo - Android 2.2 - google build a memory protocol into the operating system, just look at Lynyrd's Post:
quote:
Data Manager Services 2.5
That program built into the Android operating system takes programs (apps) and stores them into memory in order to "keep multitasking" (the BIGGEST thing Android has over anything else) relevant and active, while not draining your battery or sucking up your GPU.
The biggest complaints I hear from android users: "The batter life is horrible" .. So many android apps are designed to run in the background, and any app written since Froyo is designed to be running as a "shadow" program in the operating system, in order to make sure everything is always up to date. (Anything you have "notifications" turned on for, will automatically start back up within 10-15 minutes of you killing it anyways, to try to put itself back into the memory of the Android system) Why isn't your phone getting as good of battery life..? cause every time one of those programs starts back up, your phone has to come out of sleep.
"But --- my phone is always running so slow, so I have to use Advance Task Kill"
This is also a misconception because by using ATK you are slowing down your phone, because these apps have to keep resetting themselves and restarting, so your phone is constantly running full fledged apps in the background instead of just letting the Android operating system put them away for safe storage.
Lastly: Think of ATK as Ctr Alt Delete, did you know there is always a bunch of programs running on Windows? Yes of course you did, if you "Ctrl, Alt Delete" sometimes, look under "Processes" ... how often do you have to actually go under your processes and "End Process" .. not "Force Close", but "End Process". I differentiate the two because: when you use Advance Task Killer you aren't force closing programs, you are Ending the Process completely.
The biggest problem with this, is just like in the "Processes" tab of Task Manager, the things you are killing in Advance Task Killer are functions of the Android Operating system, and you are corrupting all of the data that was running when you Ended the Process, and there is no guarantee that data will be fixed.
Now that I've said all of this, Lynyrd and Sic, the reason I actually keep ATK around is because guess what, every once and awhile, I actually need to push Ctrl, alt delete on my computer, and well, every once in awhile, you might want to as well.

Oh.. I just thought of something, what widgets are you using?

Noooooo you seriously don't want Task Killer messing with stock apps like that, that is honestly where the biggest problem of all stems from honestly. Anything stock is fine* btw, the reason anything "stock" was running when you looked at that, was because you were working with your stock settings. That's why "settings" was even in your "running programs"
I'm honestly starting to think you are running a widgets that is slowing down your phone.. that or your "security guards" are always running, and never letting your phone run smooth.

I have 4 small 1x1 widgets for wireless, bluetooth, gps and airplane, the weather widget (all stock that were there when I got the phone),
small note pad to type quick to-do's in. Google search widget, calendar widget, message widget (all 3 of these on the phone). Flip clock (I added it). 4 small widgets for quick contacts (stock). You Tube Widget (added). Another stock widget giving directions on widgets. the stock music widget. Pandora widget. Espn Widget and 3 news widgets. Every space is completely full on all 7 screens. I didn't like any of them looking empty.

I'm not rooted so I can't take a screen shot of the new feature they have that shows all 7 screens simultaneously. Maybe I have too much running, but I didn't notice it before GB. Only after...I guess I have conflicting data and until the programs I have running are compatible with GB, it will be slower.
Ehhh...it is what it is I suppose. Thanks for all your help though!

Can you tell me why the gingerbread 2.3.3 has slowed down my phone so much and takes forever to reboot when I turn it off? I mean it looks cool as shite, but things like my texting and phone call menus are sooo slow. I have a Droid X. Even some apps are slow, but I'm attributing that to the apps not being updated for the phone software.

1x1 widgets, I have these on a 2nd screen,
Get rid of the weather widget, download Weather Bug, and use it's widget, it's cleaner and uses memory better.

These are great as well: I recommend "ColorNote" for your notepad app, it's a clean app, and uses almost no memory.
Calendar Widget should go on another screen than your home screen as well.

I honestly don't understand the Flip Clock thing.. but more power to ya, but is it really needed?
For contacts, I seriously hate the way that Moto does contacts, so I guess this is probably a needed thing, I personally just keep "Google Voice" on my home screen so I never have to go to any contact, just say them.

You have 7 screens and you have to fill them up.. this is telling but, I have 9 screens and use 4:
I use the weatherbug widget, a widget for mobile network, and 2 "power" widgets so I can change my screen brightness 6 different ways. THAT's IT. I actually have my screens setup a lot like an iPhone..

Too many widgets huh?
My biggest thing is I recommend pulling all widgets from your home page.. nothing screams slower phone like bogging down the main screen of the phone.
Posted on 7/12/11 at 3:17 pm to BaddestAndvari
Also let me put it this way.. there is a reason Apple will never allow Widgets on the iPhone.

Alright, wow, that was fun. If you need anything else.. feel free to ask, but I think I'm gonna take a tech advice vaca for a few hours. Just finished the Photoshop project as well.. such a painful day.
Excited about going home and playing NCAA and applying for a new job that just posted!!
