I've never tried to play it solo, but from what I hear, it's not the way to do it. I had a ton of fun with 2, even more with 3, and a ton with 4. The enemies get harder or easier, depending on how many are in your party. If you do an open game, you can get people dropping in to play all the time, although I always played with friends.
If you can find at least one other guy, you should be fine. Playing with at least 3, for me, is ideal.

Yeah, let's run some Borderlands. $20 @ Gamestop for the regular edition...not sure about GOTY edition.

The DLC for this is really good. We just finished the zombie one, and the end of it had me peeing my pants. So funny and awesome. Start the Clap Trap one recently, and I think we should have done Armory first.

Yes, all DLC is included in the GoTY edition. Also did you see where I posted that my PC is 3 years old? This game doesn't take much on PC.

Seent it. I refuse to build a gaming pc, archaic or not. I'm content with the PS3...don't need more games I don't play.

You can always get the DLC later. Mad Moxxy or whatever it's called isn't my favorite. So just play the regular game and see if you want to mess around with those. You need to be at a high level before you tackle those anyways.

It's great, but obviously you have to love the basic game first. He might not like it all that much, so getting the DLC would be a waste.

when i had plus, i tried it out for 60 minutes and didn't like it. but i was playing by myself so who knows. have you bought it already?
