I've heard it's pretty intense. Steam has it on sale for $27. Not many people streaming this so it's hard to get a handle on the kind of gameplay.

Anyone care to give me a bit of a rundown on what it's like? Do you unlock guns via player progression or something?

It's definitely a squad team play based game. Not really one you can solo easily. Have heard good things if you get the hang of it

this. Team play is strongly encouraged. You can roll in as a rifleman and kinda do your own thing in a squad since you don’t have much responsibility other than shoot the enemy. But you’re going to want to be in a squad that kinda has an idea on what to do. Different roles can setup spawn points, resupplies, etc. So don’t be the support guy way across the map doing your own thing. You’ll probably get flamed

Definitely some intense moments. Nothing like low crawling through a field in hostile territory to sneak up on an enemy tank. Game sounds amazing too.

I’ve only played a few months so I still stick with rifleman or occasionally medic. If you get a good squad leader and a good group it’s an absolute blast attacking/defending points.

eta: yes, each class has its own progression. As you level up you’ll get more weapons/load outs options.

nice. I might give it a try tomorrow and get a steam refund if I decide it's not for me. I definitely don't mind jumping into a random squad if they're communicating.

Are the controls relatively easy? I couldn't get the hang of Arma's controls when I tried it a while back.

Yea controls are pretty straight forward for the most part. Aim, shoot, lean mechanics. There’s 2 different grenade throws so be ready to run if you mess up lol. One is a long throw and the other is like a drop or short toss.

I've got over three hundred hours in it. As has been mentioned, this isn't a game you can solo or you're not going to enjoy it. You join squads and each squad has set roles, i.e. rifleman, officer, engineer, anti-tank etc. You level up each class to unlock different load-outs for said class.

HLL requires teamwork and communication to get the most out of it, if you have a squad that works together and communicates, it's alot of fun. If you just want to run and gun cod style, you probably aren't going to have a good time.

Yeah that's about what I figured. I'm not expecting a run and gun like COD or even Battlefield. But I've been watching this 50 year old mexican guy stream and he's mostly just running around with a sniper rifle.

ETA: The more I think about it....the more I think this game is going to just make me pissed off at teammates.

Yea it's a different game. Snipers are in two man recon squads. Each team can only have two recon squads so it will be difficult to play sniper starting out. The game takes a bit to get the hang of it but it becomes pretty satisfying when you get good at it.

Eh that isn’t exactly true. Most people will be using their mics, so just hop around platoons til you find a group playing together.

I play on ps5 and I can find a platoon using mics within 2 min usually.

It's an incredible and very complex game.

Like others above have said, 100% a team oriented game. There's different levels of communication. You and your squad can all talk and communicate, and your squad leader can talk and communicate with other squad leaders and the commander, who has some special abilities like airstrikes and dropping supplies/spawns. There's no kill streaks or extras from the other games...the commander abilities are as close as it gets and even then requires a lot more strategy than other shooter games.

There's lots of different ways to play the game...if you're coming in as a first timer, just go rifleman and go try to get a feel for things and get some kills. Gotta play much much slower than COD or BF as you will get one shot from clear across the map and never have a clue from who or where. Later on, I'd suggest getting into Support or Engineer and start feeling out the build mechanics in the game for putting up defenses and stuff. Very fun and rewarding play style. The Machine Gunners are fun to just go get tons of shots/kills but are very important if you are in a defensive mode and don't want them wasted on a first timer. Medic is good for a new guy too...get some kills and save some teammates. They'll appreciate that. Sniper and Recon are very fun, but takes a lot of luck and timing to end up in that spot, especially the sniper. I personally enjoy the recon squad leader more than the actual sniper. DO NOT try to be a squad leader until you know what the hell you're doing and have mastered basic mechanics and concepts. Everybody in your squad and the command chat thanks you for not doing so.

Save the tanks for experienced tankers...hop in to that once you've figured out the basics...most of the tankers don't mind having a new guy onboard and sort of teaching as long as you don't mind being a driver or spotter at first. Don't expect to hop in and be given the gunner. Feel free to hop in a transport truck, but DO NOT take the supply truck til you know what's going on with it and intend to be an engineer and do some building.

As far as guns, each class has about 3 different load out options and you don't customize the guns or anything...you just roll with what they come with. M1 Garand is a great starting spot, find a class with it. 8 rounds of semi-auto with 1 hit kill ability. Kar98 is same if you're on German side except its 5 rounds of bolt action. M1 Carbine and some of the other semi-auto weapons are pretty decent with less one hit kill power at range than the M1. The SMGs are good and pretty easy to control up close but they're hell to use outside of very close range. Pistols suck...period.

This game is really amazing dude. Best played with friends or join a discord community within the game. (Usually found on the server lists) One of the best FPS shooters around. It's very strategic and best played with a squad and you push as a unit. You will die a lot until you learn the safe spots, common tactics like never running out in the middle of a view, etc. You'll get better. Guns are unlocked through leveling them up, no pay wall. Each role has a specific purpose as you will learn due to the nature of the strategies involved capturing a point. Some of this includes full surrounding a point, destroying enemy spawn points, etc. If you've played squad and liked it, this is a watered down version of it.

Hilarious when drinking with friends and a really good time if you got the time for it as matches last about 1 hour 30min.

That sweet sweet sweet “ping!” From a 100+ meter headshot with a Thompson is sex money.

I love the game. Friendly fire is turned on so I often find myself suiciding beside guys on my team with grenades.

Yep that's about expected. Game is phenomenal. They are constantly updating it and they are about to add a Great Britain faction.

Played two games so far and yeah it’s pretty fun. First match no one in my squad talked but they did a little on the second game. Helped a lot for sure.
