Over on Nexus Mods, quest mod Of Kings and Killers is available as a free download, for which you'll need to track down and take out a Witcher assassin who has been trained by the King of the Wild Hunt himself, Eredin.
It's an immediately compelling premise and one that fits pretty well within the existing lore of the base game. The story starts when Geralt intercepts a letter which leads him to discover that Caranthir has necromanced a thrall, the old Witcher, Gerd. From there, it's a case of unraveling the story to the inevitable clash between the two major characters.
The mod also adds a super high-quality set of Deathlord/Wild Hunt armor with unique cloth physics that you'll be able to improve indefinitely as you work through the game.
The cool thing about this mod in particular is that it should give you plenty of hours of enjoyment without having to pay for anything. The final boss fight, in particular, is pitched as a real challenge, with the character of Gerd able to wield a very similar set of powers to the player character.
That means that you'll have to deal with him performing Witcher Signs whenever he pleases, burning and throwing Geralt while at the same time shielding himself. Gerd also has a ton of guard-breaking attacks to contend with, as well as some tight timing windows that should challenge even experienced players.
