Not sure why they think there will be significant demand for this.
There's obviously a crowd of people for whom money is no object and they'll buy the thing sure.
But the PS5 has barely had any games that push it's limits.
We reached the diminishing returns wall on graphics and lighting quality a long time ago.
The guy in the presentation said himself that 75% of people choose Performance mode over Fidelity mode. That's because every game still looks absolutely amazing in performance mode.
Nobody cares how many pixels are on that little rock over there 100 yards in the distance.

700$ for a console. Why not get a pc at that point?
Due to the upfront pricepoint. You're not getting the specs of this thing for 700. The Pro is a premium product on which AMD and Sony aren't gonna take a razor-thin margin compared to the base.

Saw a comment that today's presentation was actually a commercial for PCs and Switch 2s.
Switch 2 is rumored to be announced soon at $400.

Switch 2 is gonna be $499, take it to the bank.
Nintendo never sells for a loss, look at the price of the OLED still at $350.

Any word on what frame rates/resolutions they're targeting?

It's a premium device. Not a hugely subsidized product. If you want to be subsidized, wait for the ps6. And no, the demand won't be high for this. That's not their intentions.

Is this worth getting for someone with a PS5 that plays very regularly and has the money?

1. What tv/monitor do you have?
2. Do you notice a big difference between fidelity and performance modes in games? Does that difference bother you?
3. Do you mostly play new releases or do you still play a lot of older PS4 releases?
4. Do you have a lot of physical games or are you mostly digital?
5. Do you already have an extra M.2 SSD installed in your current PS5?

I thought the same about the ps4 pro and it was hard as hell to get one.

The separate PS5 disc drive went from one-day shipping for Prime members on Amazon to one-week shipping for Prime members.

LG CX 77 OLED

Yes and yes. Always play performance
3. Do you mostly play new releases or do you still play a lot of older PS4 releases?
Mostly new but do play both.
4. Do you have a lot of physical games or are you mostly digital?
Mostly digital although I do have some physical. My go to is digital
5. Do you already have an extra M.2 SSD installed in your current PS5?
Not sure what #5 is.

I had the same question so I'll answer them. But I think I know the answer to my question already.
1. 32" 2K 165 Hz Monitor.
2. Nope.
3. No PS4 games.
4. I exclusively download my games.
5. Yes.

If you already have a PS5 I think you'd be crazy to upgrade to a PS5 pro, the improvements are basically not-relevant or noticeable to the overwhelming majority of gamers.
If you're lucky enough to be sitting on a pile of disposable income and are looking for something to blow it on, I guess this could scratch that itch.
For someone who doesn't own a PS5 at all and is looking to finally get one, you could make an argument that spending the extra 200-300 is worth getting the pro over the standard. You're paying a much smaller cost for the improvements vs. replacing an existing unit.

These two sentences contradict each other. Its either and upgrade worth the money or its not. You can't tell me to spend the extra 250 when I can spend 450 and not notice the difference.

It's going to make a big difference for something like GTA6 though. If they had included a GTA6 feature in their presentation, I think the feedback would be a little better
I thought for SURE it would be $599 discless/$699 digital. Im basically their target customer for this thing. I get new phone every year, new graphics card for PC every year, etc - I always want the latest/greatest. And I'm still contemplating at this price point. Crazy

Same. I already told the wife I was getting one. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but 700 wasn't it.

Based on those answers, I think the upgrade is probably worth it for Draco, but not for SaintEB.
But SaintEB, at least you'll save $80 by not having to buy the detachable disc drive

I don't follow your logic.
If someone already owns a regular PS5 you are paying full price for a small upgrade to your experience, the upgrade to go from the standard experience to a pro experience. You have to replace a perfectly good PS5 you've already paid for and is doing the job fine.
If you don't own a PS5 and want one you can buy the regular edition or the pro edition, so the cost evaluation comes down to the difference between the two models, which is obviously smaller.
And it's not like there is No difference. The Pro obviously has advantages over the regular model, the issue is are those advantages worth the cost? Are they worth $700? IMO no. Are they worth $200? Possibly.
