I'm guessing (in no order):

SMB 3
SM World
A Link to the Past
Donkey Kong Country
Chrono Trigger

Was I close?

SMB3
FFVI
ALttP
Super Metroid
Chrono Trigger

So very very close, nice call.

I'm not sure why DKC is alway mentioned at the tops of top game lists. Yeah, the graphics were unique at the time and I thought they looked awesome, but I didn't think it was a very good game. The second one was decent but I wouldn't even put it in my top 20. I will say the series has amazing soundtracks.

Top 10 for sure. But that Top 5 is too nostalgia focused for HL to break into that.

Just messing, its preference.

SNES, N64 and PS1 hold a lot of nostalgia for me also. Those games are hard to separate bias. HL2 and Bioshock 1 also have me by the arse with nostalgia. They are games where I which got me into PC building. I didn't build a whole new system but went out and bought a GPU to play those titles.

Edt:

FFVI
ALttP
Super Metroid
Chrono Trigger

What a list.

GOATs.

Super Metroid, LttP, FF3 are my favorite titles on the SNES.

Its close to making it into a Top 20. Not even inside of 10 on SNES.

Buy a SD2SNES flash cart and a Framemeister. Two of the greatest gaming investments I've ever made.

The Framemeister is night and day. I've been replaying games I've beaten before and it's like a totally new experience with that thing. Kinda wish it was cheaper so other people could get it. The cheap Chinese upscalers aren't that great.

You can do the same thing with Dolphin emulator. Up res, clean up pixels and what not.

If you want to play your old carditages then this would be perfect.

On most systems, it's easily a Top 5 or 10 game. The problem with the SNES is it's pure depth. DKC is stellar, but throwing it up against the likes of a Super Metroid, Final Fantasy, etc. is just plain unfair.

I'll never forget being a kid and beating the first 3 temples, getting the pendants, and going to defeat Agahnim and thinking I was close to beating the game .

I lost it when I got teleported to the Dark World and realized I had 8 dungeones left. It literally blew my mind. The fact that the map completely changed was awesome as well.

To this day I feel that the scope of Link to the Past feels far bigger than the other games.

DARK WORLD THEME GOAT

This fight with Agahnim is one of my favorite fights in the whole series. Awesome, especially considering what happens to you after the battle.

I remember coming across this as a kid and didn't get it.

Didn't find out until YouTube in 2008-09ish what it actually was.

I beat that stage on New Years Eve after coming home from popping fireworks.

Cool night as a 7yr old.
