This is why I quit TLOU after about an hour and never went back.

Same story with Metal gear, hit man, Assassin's Creed and why I'll never play dishonored.

I've been slowing chipping away at my survivor mode playthrough. It's ridiculous how unforgiving it is.

It's not that bad once you realize you don't have to deal with every enemy. Hardest part to me was the goddamn sniper with x-ray vision towards the middle of the game. Save all shivs for clickers.

With Sam and Henry? Did that part the other night and it sucked. I went into it with no supplies too

Yeah, the fricking sniper that repeats the same dialogue over and over and can see you through walls. The part with Ellie at the warehouse with all the runners and bloaters is brutal.

David, voiced by Nolan North of course

That section was always hard.

I'm with Gardoki...

Stealth the Pittsburgh bookstore in Grounded difficulty. Freaking fun as Hell. Took me a while, but it's doable. 3 in the front "courtyard", 4 downstairs, 4 upstairs, profit. If you get spotted, it spawns like 5 or 6 more enemies.

Two areas that I thought were "broken": The one area that is impossible to stealth is that one after the cutscene where Joel gives Ellie the rifle. Big fail in design as you're supposed to get spotted. And frick the sniper section. frick it with a big steel dildo.

Also, try going full stealth in the tunnel before the hospital. Great feeling when you pull it off.

How much worse Is grounded?

The tunnel actually isn't that bad it just takes patience.

I just realized last night that naughty dog will spawn more enemies in games when you are caught. I noticed it when playing uc4. For some reason it never occurred to me.

Does everyone know the "shiv trick" for unlimited shivs? It's an almost-required glitch for Grounded runs.

I think the only difference is that you don't have a hud on grounded.

Very few supplies and enemy drops. I love it. Every bullet matters. No HUD and no listen mode. Two hits and you're dead.

On Grounded runs, my strategy is:

Use Shiv Glitch

Use those supplements (pills) you find and save them. When you're really low on health, don't waste supplies for a health kit, just use supplements to upgrade your health and you're fully healed. You can do this twice in the game, so it's like two free health kits. When I have a surplus, I upgrade weapon sway. All other upgrades are pointless.

Always have an upgraded melee weapon.

Never use bullets unless you're maxed out. Even then, maybe one or two shots of a particular gun, then switch.

It takes forever, but let your allies kill for you. You run around like a retard, but for instance in the graveyard/neighborhood, Bill can kill just about everything. It takes a hundred shotgun blasts, but it's possible.

Bricks and bottles are life. Use them as often as possible and always have one in your inventory.

There are little glitches you can abuse, like in the shoot-out at Tommy's dam, it's possible to immediately run all the way upstairs, out the window, run through the scaffold overlooking the dam and skip a lot of the shootout. I toss a nailbomb at the closed door. Enemy opens it and splat. Continue running and it triggers the last little section where Maria and Ellie are hiding. Saves a ton of resources.

Ellie in the snow during the escape from David...stealth kill all 5 enemies in the first section around the stores. Each one will drop a revolver bullet. Don't pick them up until you stealth kill them all. You'll end up with a revolver with 5 rounds. If you pick one up, the rest of the enemies won't drop any more bullets.

That trick works a lot. Clear out an area, but don't scavenge and don't pick up dropped items until you clear the whole area out. Say you only have 1 rifle bullet left, the game drops you one from an enemy. If you leave it on the ground and kill another enemy, the odds are high that the game will think you're still low on rifle ammo and drop another for you. Neat little exploit.

Certain enemies always drop certain things. Like the bloater at the university (Go Big Horns) always drops a canister of flame-thrower fuel. So, flame his arse, then replenish your supply with what he dropped.

I'm sure there are other little tricks, but it's been a year since I played. I streamed a few grounded runs in the past. Maybe I'll do one during the Christmas holidays.

Really, that's my play style for maximum efficiency. You can play kind of normally, but you will be using a ton of bricks/bottles.

The only rage-quit areas I came across on Grounded were the Defend-your-position sets with Ellie and David (the one in the room where they're waiting for "Buddy boy" to return and the other that has the bloater). You simply have to know exactly when the infected show up and where, plus there's a little RNG in there in terms of how the infected react to David/you and where David gets tied up in a grapple that forces you to save him. Frick that whole section

You need at least one molotov and bomb to kill the bloater. DO NOT waste ammo on it.
