I tried that and the claw still wouldn't engage. The downed ship was literally picking the rescue rocket off the ground and the claw wouldn't engage. I'm kicking myself for not testing it on Kerbin. Cause that thing was a pain in the arse to land, and I had to drive it over 4 Km of Minmus terrain to get to the rocket. It did however work like a charm, I drove to the downed rocket and used the RCS on the downed rocket to manuever it under the rescue ship. I will admit though that I've had a blast trying to rescue Jeb. I'm going to try one more time tomorrow, I do think I can get it, I'll be super depressed if I got this close and can't.

Did you try switching to the claw ship before the downed ship touched the claw.
It is a known bug that the game can screw up if you try to engage the claw from the ship that doesn't have the claw.

That happened to me twice. Both ships disappeared!

Sorry, guys I've been super bust this week and I'm going to out of town for the next several days. I haven't really had any time to think about a new challenge. If anybody else has something feel free.

I was thinking it'd be cool to do a real-time mission. And the only way to force real time in the game is to be within a certain amount of meters within the surface of an object.
So, I think we should do a real-time circum-planet. Whoever can circle the planet in the fastest time wins.
This allows people who like to do planes do planes, and rocket people to do rockets.
You have to land near where you took off from.

I must say I had a lot of fun doing the last challenge. There were a lot of good tries at rescuing the stranded rocket and everyone's stranded KErbalnaut made it home. I learned a lot about KSP itself and about doing these challenges.
Okay, here we go. Challenge 4.
Using the Kerbal Space Program Space Center as your starting point, you will circumnavigate Kerbin. You may go in any direction you like, but you must land as close as possible to the starting point.
Goal: Fastest time around Kerbin at set altitudes.
Altitudes are:
5,000 m
30,000 m
100,000 m
250,000 m
You can do as many of these 4 altitudes as you would like.
Rules:
Reach altitude as quickly as possible
Once you reach altitude you must stay within 500 meters of that altitude. Honor system here guys.
Sandbox mode
No mods
No budget
Whatever type of vehicle you like, planes, rockets etc
The launch pad will serve as start and finish, +1 second for every 100 m off the launch pad when you land.
You may go in any direction on the map you like
At least some part of your ship and 1 kerbalnaut must survive landing.
Required pictures:
Takeoff
Once you reach altitude
Landing, showing distance to launch pad
Time from launch to land
Good luck and happy flying
