Talk to a dad about Nintendo Switch

Yesterday, I bought my daughter a Nintendo Switch. She is 9. She saved up $200 from Christmas and birthday money, and I threw in the rest. She's been wanting it for a while, says a lot of her friends have it. I also bought her a game, Just Dance.
We got the basics of it - got it set up last night on our tv in the living room, understand how to move it from handheld to docked, somewhat understand the controllers. Set up an online account and got a 7 day trial. Figured out how to use the game cartridge I bought (man, it's small). I set up an app on my phone and put a 2 hour / day limit on the switch.
The last gaming system I was around was a Super Nintendo. So, it's been a while.
Help me understand this thing. What's the point of the online subscription, is it worth it? It looks like it comes with some free classic games, does it come with any free newer games?
Any parental control tricks / issues I should know about as a dad?
She says she can play her friend in the dance game who lives 3 blocks away, how do we do that?
Anything else I should know?
Pardon my ignorance, this is all new to me.

You get NES and SNES games for free
Some online games require the subscription. It's a small fee and worth it if you will regularly game on the Switch.

Lock your account with a passcode and don't attach a credit card to your daughter's account if you want to control purchasing.

They both need to buy the game and start the game and be friends in the system. And you most likely need the online service.

Na. Get more joycons most likely.

Highly recommend Mario Kart, Mario Party, Super Smash Bro’s. Those are basic, everyone likes to play type games and kids that age shouldn’t have a problem picking them up.

Fun stuff that. I hope y'all play it together and laugh at each other. Great times. :)

For me it's an exercise in staying upright.
Dancing has never been a strongsuit of mine.

If I remember correctly the online is very cheap for a year. It's worth it if you want to play some of the games you played when you were younger.
I recommend tasting the back of the game cartridge; the black part. It's got a bad taste to it that everyone needs to experience.

Online gets you the free NES and SNES. Those are fun and have rewind and other features to make it less hassle.
Most of the online store you can pass on most like as you can get the games of Steam or humble bundle for less and link the PC to the TV.
Get at least one other joycon set.
Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Donkey Kong Tropic Freeze are all great for the family and her age.
Breath of the Wild is fantastic.
Animal Crossing is coming soon.
Minecraft is a good dad and daughter game for y'all to build and explore together.
Mario Odyssey is the best since 64. You can do two player with that but the camera makes it awkward.

It's the best game I've ever played.

quote:She's 9 so I wouldn't worry too much, but it is extremely easy to bypass parental control settings on a Nintendo Switch.
