they plan to.

this is a 4 year project in the making that they say is just getting started. they want to see how popular this game becomes first.

i feel if they would've waited to release it with XBLA Summer Arcade lineup they'd of gotten more pub.

but there is quite a bit of buzz being generated already if YouTube and Twitter are any indication.

that after playing 8 hours it had more replay-ability

I've not played dayz but I could see SoD having great replay value. 10 minutes I already the chance to switch characters.

they were highly impressed seeing how this is Undead Labs first title.

Pretty lofty goal. I'm keeping this in perspective knowing that and also, and I know I've beaten this point to death, it's a $20 XBLA download. Like I said, if this game is to the scale I hope/think it is and gives me a world even half the size of a RDR, this would totally be worth $60

Cons:

- I'd like a few more search options, but again, that could distract from the game and intention of slaying zombies and building a safehouse if I'm rummaging thru every trash can and backpack I see

- It didn't come out last Friday so I had all weekend to play while my wife and daughter weren't home

Pros:

- True to the term "survival horror". If you die, say goodbye to that character. You can run somewhere to get there faster, but if you run out of stamina and get spotted then you can't defend yourself and you die. You can rummage thru sacks and containers faster, but it's louder and will attract attention. You can switch weapons or use items mid-fight, but the game won't pause when you do. The action continues and you may get killed.

- The NPC AI isn't completely useless. The people who run with you actually slay zombies without you doing anything. They go out and kick arse and help you defend stuff just like a friend would do in MP

- I like the mapping system. You can scout areas from towers or up high and it marks them on your map. One of the more forgiving ascpects and a much needed one IMO. It also marks areas with an X after you search them. Very helpful

That's all I got in my brief play time before leaving this morning

Didn't get that far. I can imagine stuff's gonna get real once I do tho

I saw "JAE online playing State of Decay". 5 minutes later I saw my phone "JAE: State of decay or blops maps?" Guess he made his decision

Did a couple missions at the church. So far I love it. Your vehicles don't last long. Will you be able to repair them at some point?

This review is a bit confusing. On one hand it says you'll need to repair or replace weapons and vehicles, then on the other it says once an item is damaged you'll need to find another way, so I'm not sure. I think repair should be available but not easy. JMO. Guess I'll find out tonight

quote:

And you’ll have to scrounge for whatever you can, both in terms of weapons (pipe wrenches, hatchets, and hockey sticks along with guns, too) and transportation. Both your offensive arsenal as well as your cars (which, of course, also double as formidable weapons themselves; Pro tip: speed by one just off to your left and press X to open the driver’s door. It’s a satisfying swat.) degrade over time, necessitating repair or replacement. Delightfully, it means you can never rely on one great sidearm or one useful truck the whole time. The more damage you do, the quicker you’ll need to find another way to deal it.

You have to upgrade safe zones to get the ability to repair weapons and vehicles. It looks like if you leave a vehicle in an upgraded parking spot it will repair overnight.

That makes sense. So are any of you using the firearms or just staying away from it because of the noise?

I finished Deux Ex. Saved it at the end and went thru all 4 endings. Pretty deep stuff. Good game

I still need to play that game. Got pissed that I didn't save and never picked it back up.

You finished just in time, they are revealing something to do with the next Deus Ex at E3.

I've only used firearms once when my weapon busted and there were a ton of zombies. Almost lost a character and had to abandon a random mission in that instance as well.

on the IGN review I posted the guy said he was trying to hold down his safehouse, then the black plague struck and killed his main character and 3 others

WTF? The plague? Of course, there are zombies walking around so I guess plague isn't so far fetched

So is it worth the minimal hype it's gotten so far? I haven't seen it promoted a ton outside of the few threads we've had on this board
