I quit out of sheer frustration with the horrible maps

The trick is to keep moving to the shaded (or unshaded? I can't remember which) areas of the map which denote that you haven't been there yet. There isn't a single collectible worth having, so don't stress over it. Just keep moving.

Pretty true. There are health and force upgrades you can find that are hidden and helpful, but most of the collectibles are cosmetic items that do absolutely nothing besides a new color scheme for something like your lightsaber or poncho.
I just played through a second time. I didn't stress over the map too much this time. Just kept heading towards parts of the map that weren't explored yet. The biggest thing to learn on your first play through is you can't access a full area from the beginning. You get different skills through the story that enable you to use powers to jump over broken bridges, run along a wall, force push/pull items to climb on, ect. The hologram map also marks most areas that you can't get to yet with a red color. But the hologram map does suck since it's 3D, incomplete and has no waypoints to guide you for most things.
For $10 I would buy it and play on one of the easier difficulties. Have fun with a decent Jedi story and playing with Jedi toys/powers. Don't worry about exploring every little section unless you find it's something you enjoy.

You do need to find the health upgrades. other than that everything is cosmetic but those health upgrades could be real important depending on the difficulty level.

It’s been a while so I can’t really assist in that fight but it does remind me….this game had some really tough boss fights. Very very tough

Which part are you stuck on? It's been a while, but I remember that fight having multiple stages.

Is it Taron? Parry attacks and keep on the offensive. Push push. Also an easy tip for a lot of these fights nowadays is just googling the game name followed by ign walkthrough.
Also plenty of YouTube videos of people teaching you how to beat bosses nowadays. The days of sharing secrets on the playground has moved to YouTube.
