Good game but very derivative and low effort. It is a retelling of the first Soul Calibur with certain aspects changed to fit in new characters and some characters who weren't introduced until later games in the series.

The story mode thus far is visual novel with long load times in between chapters/fights. The CAW adventure mode seems alright but I haven't played much of it yet.

To my knowledge there are no extra weapons outside of those you can earn for your created fighter.

Arcade mode returns but it feels like an extension of the training mode (complete with no proper character select), no boss characters, and no endings.

The amount of positive reviews for this game has to be nostalgia driven. I feel like there are much better fighting games available in 2018.

Very derivative and low effort? It has more content and things to do than any other fighting game released this year.

That said, there is a boss character, Inferno, that you unlock.

Fewer Stages (generic stages)
Fewer Characters
No extra weapons for the default roster
lame main story mode
No final boss encounter in Arcade mode
No character select screen in Arcade mode
boring, cheap menu design
graphics look similar to the last gen titles
no 2P costumes
Fewer create-a-character outfit pieces

I do like the character specific stories though, but I would really appreciate cutscenes instead of the visual novel style character portraits and chat boxes.

the actual gameplay is still as fun as ever, and it's absolutely more packed with single player content than Tekken 7 but it's probably the least content-filled Soul Calibur game.
