Yeah I'd rather live somewhere like Bossier City than Santa Monica

Being a game developer at a big studio is probably one of the worst possible jobs I could imagine for someone with that high of a skill set.
Good paycheck, nightmarish working conditions in terms of hours and morale.
If you're talented enough to be a game dev, you obviously have a very marketable skill set and can get a much less demanding job for the same pay.
Game developers have historically been very passionate people and the big triple A corporations have been more than eager to exploit that passion and turn it into hell on earth. "crunch" or "death marches" are the norm, be prepared to work 60, 70, 80 hour weeks for months trying to get a game wrapped up.
If you're that passionate about games and willing to put in that much time, energy and blood, sweat, and tears into them, I'd much rather do it at a small studio or my own startup (e.g. the Cuphead guys) not doing it so some generic boardroom a-hole's stock can go up an extra point.

I don't know what the environment is like at SMS, but watch Raising Kratos, the in house documentary they did on the making of God of War. Was really good. I think if I wasn't married and had kids, I wouldn't mind working for them.
