So what happened to Desmond Miles between the AC2 games and AC3?

Friend gave me an idea to revisit AC3 on the 4th which was kind of fun. It had been a hot minute since I played it, I have the remastered version, and did this guy spend too much time in the animus? Or was Ubisoft like "we have more pixels to play with now, let's make him the caveman we had always envisioned he was"?

The vaccine gave him Down Syndrome.

This just reminds me how much I'm not a fan of the direction the franchise went.
Don't get me wrong, they're still solid games, but man those early ones were incredible and unique.
The newer ones have felt like they're just doing what everyone else is doing.

They still haven't figured out what to do with the story since Desmond.

I mean, I pretty much ignore the out-of-animus stuff anyways, so if there's a thread of a story they've been telling, I haven't bothered to keep up with it.

They were heading toward a modern day assassin Desmond outside of the animus stuff
As far as I can tell, they completely abandoned that idea
Plus, they went far too supernatural with Ragnarok. Obviously the historical figures throughout the games were all integrated into the story in a non-historical way, but the fighting gods thing was too much, IMO.

You mean the Valhalla DLC? I still want to do that stuff, I think I finished the main game but it's hard to tell. Ubisoft emailed me congratulating me for finishing it so I suppose I did.

Yeah. This is their description of it.
Maybe it's great, idk. It just seems wildly different from the feeling of the AC. I've said a few times on here that Valhalla felt empty so maybe I'm just being grumpy about the game as a whole

Valhalla was fun but Eivor moved too slow and I never was able to dig into the Viking aspect of it. Raids were fun but didn't feel very assassin-y.

i was stoked for Valhalla. I too felt like it wasnt an assassins creed game anymore. That and the sheer amount of map barf in that game was insane. i very rarely put games down unfinished. i think i did maybe half the stuff in that game and didnt finish the story. Just started it up one day and said " ya know what, im done".

The story in Valhalla was terrible anyway
I want to try the dlc for a more focused experience but ... ehhhh there's just mechanically better games out there.

I did some googling, turns out it was an intentional design change. They wanted Desmond to be a mix of Ezio and Altair.
