Been thinking about picking one up soon. Never been a PC gamer, so I'm gonna have to pick up a new PC as well.

I was looking at this HP from best buy. Only gaming use it would see is the oculous rift.

HP Omen

Is this something I'll use for a month and get tired of, or is the experience worth the $$$$?

Dam Guide has one IIRC. Either a rift or a vive.

Build your own PC though. I'd want a little more horsepower than a gtx 1060 for VR.

Why wouldn't you use the PC to game normally too?

Guess I could go the build route. I don't mind piecing one together, but was kinda just wanting to pick everything up and be set up out the box.

More of a console game fan. Mainly play Xbox live and that's what all my friends are on.

It's not 2014/2015 anymore, VR thing is dying off finally.

Facebook bought it and doomed any potential for greatness.

This is true. You know they have an API built in to see what you're doing with it too. Mid jerk and you start getting blasted with advertisements for Applebee's half off apps after 8pm.

RE7 is one of my favorite gaming experiences of my life and I'm old.

Having said that, game designers just aren't on-board yet. Sure, some mainstream games have been retrofitted for VR to squeeze the last drops of money from Skyrim and Fallout 4 but overall the big players aren't interested in VR.

This stems from cost and too many people getting sick. I had to take it slow the first few times I played RE7 but after a few days I could play as long as I wanted. Game designers aren't risking $100 million project failing because of nausea.

I don't think it is a fad but it isn't remotely fully baked or accepted at the moment.

However...

In summary, unless you see a few games that you are dying to play and you have a pile of cash to burn. I would wait. Unless you don't really care about games and that is just a cover up for your soon to be VR porn addiction.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, right?

I've seen 4-5 games that look pretty awesome, I'm just worried after a month or so I'll get tired of it. Which would suck on a $1200 purchase. Would be easy decision if I knew it had a solid future, just dont know much about it at this point

You probably will get tired of it.

I guess it just depends on how much you like the smaller shorter VR games.

Hell, I bought a PS4 and PSVR just for RE7 which I'm happy I did. Especially since the PS4 backlog kicks the crap out of XBone. So even if the PSVR didn't hold my attention, the PS4 kept me busy for over a year.

Really is hard to recommend buying a PC and Rift unless you have some money to burn. And I am pro VR.

Yeah if I was just looking at the $400 for the rift it would be easy decision

The $900 gaming computer that I wont be using for anything else is what has me on the fence. May just wait a bit and see how VR progresses

Or get a PSVR if you have PS4. $200 is a lot easier to stomach if you don't like it than $1200.

And $200 won't keep you from down the line upgrading to a better system if you love it.

Update

Went to bestbuy yesterday and picked up the oculus Vr bundle and the IBuyPower Trace940 CPU

LINK

Very impressed so far. Every oculus app/game I've run has performed flawlessly, and the VR is amazing
