You can downvote for the 13 takes because I accept I am very likely in the minority of opinion on that one.

I actually came around and enjoyed FF13. My first time I hated it because I didn't have patience for all the cutscenes so didn't know what was going on. When I put actual time into a replay I really enjoyed the story an the combat and visuals were pretty solid.

I bought it anew at the beginning of the month - the complete version - and the same problems persisted. I spent 40 hours bebopping around in my car doing 90% sidequests from completely random characters with a few story quests mixed in. Still kind of enjoyable as I enjoyed the challenge and friendship. Then finally decided to proceed to chapter 9 and was speed warped all the way to the end in about six hours, half of which was completely on rails with scripted impossible to lose solo fights and the other half was Chapter 13 where my solo prince was fricking around the most boring and obnoxious dungeon ever put in a final fantasy game.

It's baffling to me how Square Enix has lost the plot so hard with Final Fantasy when they have proven to be perfectly capable of creating an amazing traditional JRPG with Dragon Quest 11.
Or just make Octopath Traveler with a story that isn't a disjointed stupid mess.

I spent a lot of money on the ultimate edition or whatever. The game was arse on release. I spent a few hundred bucks on a game that gets “fixed” 3-4 years later. Anyone involved in that game can eat my arse.

So you are right. I was a blind retard at the time. The game was a scam.

For me having skipped FF14 I was beyond excited for this, plus the game had one of the best trailers ever. I do remember being sorely disappointed on launch. I remember reading later they had added a bunch of content in but the last 1/3 left such a bad taste in my mouth I had no interest for years to replay.

I would've enjoyed 13 and 13-2 more if Hope didn't exist as a character or he was massively changed. Him alone kills those games for me - much more so in 13 than 13-2.

As for 15, I was similar in that I bought it when it first came out, played about 10 hours, and then quit because it was not good. I decided to restart it early last year and thought that it was great. Not my favorite FF game but it's probably 6th overall because 9, 7, 8, 6, and 4 in that order. As others have said, 15 would be better received if you didn't have to watch the movie or read the book to get the full story.

I've heard Octopath Traveler II addresses this somewhat but don't know. I never finished the first game but the combat was some of the best turn based combat I've ever played. They also have the Bravely Default games which are pretty fun.
