Preface: I used to daily WoW years back and then LoL up until a couple years ago. and then eventually got out of that and into warzone all of this obviously on PC.

I’m kind of burnt out on the PC stuff so I’m seeking recommendations for the Xbox one that I have mostly used for streaming services minus a few random hours here and there playing RDR and sports games here and there.

I just bought game pass for a dollar to see if I can get into anything this month. I enjoy open world stuff a lot and maybe some campaign type stuff but not if it’s tunnel vision type campaigns where they hold your hand and very well do it all for you.

Newer stuff or even the older stuff that you recommend? For instance, I noticed the older Xbox games like elder scrolls and fables and lots of others are all on game pass.

TLDR: I want to get lost in an open world game (Xbox one) that I can put some hours in and just have a good time.

Divinity: Original Sin, Witcher, Fallout NV, Dragon Age, Oblivion, Fable, Dragons Dogma

Give Dark Souls 1 a try - the “extreme difficulty” is very much overblown.

As far as open world, the Assassin's Creed games might be up your alley. Or Fallout 3/4/New Vegas. Fallout 76 is an mmo-esque version of Fallout. And of course there's the Elder Scrolls games. Not on Game Pass but Elden Ring if you haven't played it.

And there a surprising number of indie games that come and go on game pass that are actually pretty solid. You just missed Nier Automata too,it's a low-key goat.

Also if you like a more old school in depth rpg, the Pillars of Eternity series are pretty damn great. Not exactly open world, but it's a large game with very in depth combat and character development. In game choices matter etc. Glad I decided to play it.

Outer Worlds is a semi open world rpg shooter in the vein of Fallout. You can definitely spend some hours in it.

Outriders is a little quirky but actually pretty fun. Sci-fi rpg shooter.

Not sure if this game is still available, but I had a good time with Scarlet Nexus as well. It's an action RPG, a little bit more linear than some games, but the combat was well done and fast paced. Interesting storyline as well.

If you like MOBA games, which this would obviously be better to play on PC, but Smite is pretty damn fun. Mentioned because you liked LoL.

I was just checking to see if it was still on Gamepass, bummer it is not.

OP, I would highly suggest picking this up if you can. Might find it used for cheap.

It does get hate, but I would do the Halo Infinity campaign.

Star Wars Fallen Order might be a quick fun one.

I would play through both Oris as well.

After that try out some indie games or what others said.

Agreed. Nier Automata is phenomenal. Surprising it didn't get more mainstream attention. It's a can't miss. Up there with the all time greats in the rpg genre.

I’m currently going down the whole Nier journey starting with Drakengard on PS3 (PS2 game).

I know I’m obnoxiously old school - I played Kings Field/Shadow Tower/Evergrace before I got into Souls. And not just the ones that got US releases.

Yeah, I played smite on pc first originally and then again on Xbox a little later. Just hated not being able to figure out how to cross my account over

What Remains of Edith Finch - Not the style of game you mentioned, but it is a really great game and included on Game Pass.

Far Cry 5 just popped up on Game Pass. I'm not far into the campaign but am enjoying it so far.

Skyrim is obviously a great game and you can completely ignore the story if you want.

I tried to start playing Fable but the graphics were just too dated for me. I couldn't do it.

State of Decay 2 is an open world build your base sort of game with some rpg elements with very little hand holding. Sounds like you may enjoy that one.

Wasteland 3 is a top down type campaign game and does not hold your hand at all. You can completely change the ending based on how you do things.

The Outer Worlds is a great campaign game as well, but it does get a little linear at times.

If you ever decide to achievement hunt, I put together a thread a while back with a bunch of games that were on Game Pass or free at the time that you could get a bunch of achievements from in very little time. LINK

Someone’s probably mentioned this already but Dragons Dogma. Game didn’t get its due credit initially but FF16, not that you’ll see it on Xbox, and the announcements of Dragons Dogma 2 have led to it surging in some popularity. It’s a unique take and fresh but if you’re mainly coming from pc maybe that’s not what you want. It’s not a game for everyone I’d check out a non spoilers review first. I’d guess it’s on game pass too. If not it can’t be more than 20$

Witcher 3 is a must. That'll keep you busy for a while.

Thanks a lot, to you and everyone else in replies. I’ll give some of these a try.

Skyrim will get some of my attention first off I think. When elder scrolls was peaking I was in junior high school or somewhere around there. I was far more into sports games and didn’t play too many of these good console games that my buddies did.

Also intrigued by state of decay and wasteland

Sure thing man! I know you'll find something you enjoy on Game Pass. If you aren't already, I'd also recommend signing up for Microsoft Rewards because you can gain quite a bit of rewards and then use those rewards to renew your game pass sub (among other things).

wasteland

The direction of where you need to go is a little linear, but you get to choose how you react to each situation. Even right down to simply killing literally everyone. The combat system is sort of similar to an XCOM type of game, if you're familiar with that.

Game Pass has the first two Wasteland games also, but I haven't played those.

I could have expounded a little more in the OP, but I am alright with a good game with interactions and decisions and such even if it’s not all under my control.

I just don’t like full blown campaigns where it feels like 99 percent of the game is storyline fighting where I basically watch a movie. And then when it goes back to game it directs me here and there.

COD campaign, Battlefield etc come to mind. I mean even halo let you kinda go how you want to get somewhere or do something in a round about way as long as you get to the marker. You could kill none of the aliens or all of them.

I just don’t want it to get too far out there I guess

Watch Dogs 2 is hitting Game Pass tomorrow. That's another one that may be worth checking out. I've never played it so I'm excited.
