Is it really that good, i never finished the first one. The whole father/son thing was pointless to me.

I thought the father son dynamic was well done for this game. I throughly enjoyed it and Atreus really comes into his own. Definitely a coming of age story from the 2018 game. I don’t see how anyone could be disappointed with this game.

Don't really care about kids, don't really need a coming of age story, i'm already of age. Just didn't really interest me. I'll give it a try again after i'm done with witcher.

I will play this game eventually. I liked GoW 2018 well enough, but I wouldn't say it blew me away.

Felt like a weird mix of Metroid, a Naughty Dog Game, and Ryse Son of Rome

My car jacking days are way behind me but I still enjoyed GTA 5.

No. Not even as good as 2018

it’s much better than 2018. All it had was Freya’s son had the valkyries; it was good but not close to this level

Carson has made up his mind, he won't let it go.

:(

I want to go wreck some shite, not deal with some dumb kid. I probably won't like the new one either.

And you know what? This is exactly why I had such high hopes for Ragnarok. If 2018 was so good with such limited scope and cast, surely Ragnarok would be an all timer, right?

Wrong. Cory Barlog is clearly what makes GOW go. The new Gen Z writing team did a good job with the moment to moment small talk and Mimir wisdom type stuff, but the main narrative was incredibly disappointing. They Marvelized so much of the dialogue and characters, so many of the tasks you complete end up being meaningless, so many plot threads are left dangling, the pacing is very poor, and there's too much filler & padding. All of the things that Cory and the 2018 writers carefully set up is just outright ignored for the most part. The 3rd Act is just straight up bad.

Yeah, let's spend 3 hours picking fruit and fighting Grandma, but then have Ragnarok boil down to a 25min corridor fight sequence against regular Einherjar mobs followed by a repeat boss fight and then a letdown boss fight When I really think about it, the only truly epic setpiece moment that had my jaw on the floor was the Hrist/Mist fight. There should've been way more unique bosses like that - not 30 Dreki fights and 10 basically-the-same dragon fights. Probably the most hilarious part is when the Traveler ally in Vanaheim sacrifices himself on Freyr's boat and they write/shoot it in a way as if we're supposed to give a shite. The dude had like 2 lines prior LOL

Don't get me started on the Sigil puzzles either. How something like that can make it into the game is just baffling. One of the worst mechanics I can remember in a major AAA release like this

It's not an escort situation at all. In the first game you never had to concern yourself with him at all and in Ragnarok there is only 1 or 2 sections, I think, where you have to go rescue him from an attack. All the son does is use arrows to stun/debuff enemies and has a few special attacks he can use.

Again, the Asgard part at the end was just fine. You had spent plenty of time there throughout the rest of the game. Why drag it out artificially when the only purpose for you being there is to take out Odin? You only go to Jotunheim once and meet one of the more interesting new characters in the game. I liked that departure from the rest of the game, truly felt Atreus had been away for a really long time, and I enjoyed all of it.

Maybe lower your standards just a tad, Carson

Bro, it's Ragnarok. It's the apocalyptical, cataclysmic end of the Norse world that cleanses all the realms so that they can start anew. It's what the game is named after.

That's not the segment you want to mail in

I didn't even dislike the Ironwood section. Angrboda was one of the best performed characters in the game. It's just frustrating that the game's titular event is the one that they just said "frick it" on

Trust me, they'll be very low for any future GOW game that Cory is not writing/directing

I am really enjoying Ragnarok (prob about halfway thru), but I’m not sure what it is about it but I am not sure I’m having as much fun playing it as I did 2018. I feel like I enjoyed the story/narrative much more of the first game and don’t care for it as much here. Combat and exploration are certainly better in Ragnarok.
