Really liked it, gameplay, characters, story, even the really difficult parts didn't frustrate me too much. The ending was ok, I suppose, but maybe I was expecting complex and it was pretty straightforward, your brother released by the Hiss, he's in a coma, now you're the director and are going to finish ridding the facility of the remaining Hiss. I apparently missed the part where Polaris actually survived and came back to you, but I keep reading that in some of the wikis.

I feel inclined to actually go through the rest of the game and finish all of the side quests, but is there really any incentive to do so other than being a completionist? I gather the bulk of the meat of this game is in the lore you find all over the place, and I do like that stuff, but I guess I'm wondering if there is a "second ending" or is it just about the experience and finding all the lore?

Also, the one skill I felt I never used either because I kept forgetting I had it or just never thought it was all that effective was shield. If I put points into it, is it actually helpful with some of the harder fights?

I really enjoyed the game. I think my favorite parts of the game was the architecture of the spaces in the MIB or whatever that agency was called. Beautiful and wonderful visually. The sequence where you get the headphones and fight your way through the maze was also just incredible.

I enjoyed the story too, but overall I think it fell a little flat somehow. I loved the crazy science guy videos and all the weird stuff - it was almost like playing an adult version of Portal - but like a knock-off version.

Anyway...I did all the side quests and they were mostly pretty short and lame. The only one I didn't do was "EsseJ" - f that one - ridiculously hard for no real reason, so I didn't try more than 3 or 4 times and turned it off.

I never really used shield very much. I think there was one or two missions where it did seem almost necessary though.

I won't pay full price for the next one, but I enjoyed this one good enough.

Depending on which ones. Some are just fun, some will help you fill out the skill tree or get outfits. Some give you garbage and arent that cool.

The mirror and langdons quests are really good. The bosses are almost all optional and are pretty cool, some are real hard.

No second ending, just some expanded lore and npc convos.

I used it like twice and never felt it was very useful.

Actually where I stopped playing a few weeks ago

I looked up how long of a fight it was and was debating just walking away from it. That puzzle was pretty cool to unlock it, at least.
