I mean if you’re paying that much for hardware, including the PSU, why the hell would you sacrifice any performance at all just to save some wattage?

I'd be tempted to snag one at Microcenter if they sold FE.
MSI one is $2400, Asus one is $2800.

Because watts = heat, and sitting next to a space heater fricking sucks

Historically, a mild undervolt actually gives more performance than stock. Looks like that's likely the case here as well. This is from Tech Yes City:

Main reason I got a 4070 Super was efficiency but I'd love to get my hands on a 5090 and mess around to see how much efficiency I could squeeze out.

If the 5090 were $1,600, I would likely take the plunge. $2,000 is just absurd. I can afford it, but I just can’t justify it. At least not to my wife

"The RTX Titan launched at $2500 so $2000 is a steal for the 5090!" - probably Nvidia

Haven't seen that channel before. Good stuff

But yeah, looks like there’s a “free” 20% or so, which is pretty normal. Anything below that and you’ll probably eke out a bit of extra performance. Any more than that and you’ll start giving away performance in small intervals, usually up to about 50% where the card starts exhibiting serious stability issues regardless of clock.

We’ll know more in an hour, but Igor’s Lab leaked a slide before the embargo showing the 5080 at an 8.3% uplift over the 4080S at 1440p, which if true, is fricking awful and would make me, once again, skip this entire generation of GPUs.

So I'm guessing a 5070ti isn't gonna enough of an upgrade over a 4070. Enough for me is 50%. I'll just wait for the 6 series, I guess.
Hopefully, it will be 2nm.

Reviews are coming in oddly game specific, but overall, the 5080 reviews are extremely disappointing. One thing I'm curious about is overclocking, as the frame per watt numbers are extremely good, which usually speaks to be a bit of OC overhead, but I don't think it's reasonable to judge cards on that, at least not at release.
I may see if I can buy one tomorrow just in case there's another GPU availability crush that inflates resale for the 3080, etc, but again, blah. MFG was supposed to be the saving grace of this gen, and being that isn't shaking out, the 5080 kinda sucks. I look forward to a 5080 Super/TI twelve months from now to split the difference between the 5080 and 5090 in both price and performance, making it equally blah.

Both Microcenters here are only getting 5 5090s each. I saw like 70 people in line earlier.

People lining up for this gen are flat fricking insane
Like I said, I’ll probably try to swipe a card online tomorrow morning, but I’m not willing to invest more than about 10m on the endeavor

Each location is getting 72 5080s.
Cheapest model is Zotac Gaming Solid OC for $1150.

$600 9700xt, $550 9700.
I think the 9700 is DOA, but the 9700xt is mildly interesting if: it actually has the claimed rasterization parity with the 5070ti and you mostly play competitive games below 4k/without RT/etc OR if AMD has made actual strides with RT and/or upscaling. We’ll see when reviews come out, but it’s at least not terrible news.
