I've dabbled in MMO's here and there and they're a lot of fun, but I get so lost in the talk. That's why I could only play with more knowledgeable friends. After the party explains what the plan is, to the side, "so I just pump arrows into the guy, right?"

Well, in the grand scheme of things, and I guess in the opinion of the non-gaming world, there isn't any difference. But there really is, and it's frightening when you look at the hardcore MMO players.
So like I said, I played a little bit, Final Fantasy 14. They re-released it over a year ago, and one of the big controversies when it came out again was that they were going to allow characters (toons) to get married, but not same sex. People were having fits. And all I could think of was "who on earth would want to pretend to get married in a game AT ALL?"
I also found out there's this sub-section of MMO players called RP's (role-players). So you're in the game, BS'ing with other players about the football game that night or something on TV, and it's whatever. The RP crowd won't do that. Anything they chat about is to do with their character. They'll talk about how the city looks or how hard that quest was, or the family they miss in the far off country they traveled from. They are their character. It got to the point where they ended up dedicating certain servers for them because even the more serious regular players couldn't stand them.
It's just bizarre.
Maybe that exists with shooters, people pretending to actually be soldiers, but I'm certain not to that degree.

pretty airtight thinking eta: Can Ebola be transferred through the internet while playing games? If so I'm screwed. Other than that I should be good since I avoid public places and people.
