Sounds like it's spinning. Little disc image top right corner is spinning. But doesn't auto load game and don't have it shown under the game menu.

I don't play enough to get a PS4. How long has it even been out?

YouTube search, lots of ps3 error fix videos, or any older consoles.
There are also entire forums dedicated towards fixing problems with consoles.

Disc drive issues are one of the issues that arrive due to age and use. There are fixes you can do, but it's probably cheaper to just find a used one online.

Yep disc based systems are just inherently more fragile and have shorter life spans.
luckily replacing the disk drive or just the lens (the parts most prone to fail) isn't all that complicated or expensive

It sounds like a little bit of Rita is all you need.

I bought my first PS3 off of eBay for $80 bucks years ago. Guy was selling it because of this same problem. I looked up how to fix it. Bought the part, spinner or laser can't remember which. Installed it, and it's worked ever since.
Fixed a Wii back in the day with similar issues.
