Royal is an easier game (comparing the two on merciless difficulty since that’s what I run) much more lenient with your time and does a much better job at establishing what a persona game actually is and how it should be played fairly slowly

Reloaded on the other hand is much faster to jump into the action and get everything moving. You also have way less time lenience if you want to max confidants it’s a very very slim margin.

Royal takes like 6-7 hours before the game ends the tutorial though

Imo Royal is the best intro to persona

If you’re concerned with length a blind first run of Royal is likely to go north of 120 hours. Reloaded will do around 100 but it has a DLC expansion that’s around 25 hours

Royal also has most of the very challenging super bosses if you want to push the system to its limits with foggy day and lavenza

Reloaded has the hardest boss in all persona and that’s heartless joker in episode aegis

All that said p3 is my favorite and I like it more than 5 but it is close

4 is fricking great too but definitely wait until next February for revival before you do that one.

You will have questions. Copious amounts. Ask here and I’ll do my best to assist you

Fusion calculator

This is also an insanely useful tool it cannot be understated.

This is a fusion calculator showing you all the combinations of two personas you can fuse to get what you want, it also shows what that persona can then go on to be fused to.

On each personas page it lists their entire moveset, and what item they give in the electric chair normally and during fusion alarms.

If you click skills you can find every skill in the game, which personas have it, which can maybe give a skill card for it, and which if any can be electric chaired for the skill card.

This likely sounds like gibberish but you’ll know the basics of fusing quickly so you’ll come to see how valuable this is

Make sure when using you enter the settings and check the boxes for dlc personas if you have them or make sure they’re not if you don’t since it changes it

P4 revival is confirmed to follow in P3 reload footsteps and all social links will be fully voice acted.

For those that arent aware in p5 only the 1st rank and 10th rank got voice acting in confidants the rest was reading text.

This is cool

You say you “run” p5 on merciless as if you’ve done it multiple times? How do you have that much time? It took me 200 hours and a couple breaks over a couple years to finally beat Royal

There’s two things at play here

I keep a save set up right at the end up of the new content 2 days before the new final boss on new game plus where I have all of my personas fully optimized so finely that I can take on and defeat lavenza with joker alone if I wish, although I will die some it’s not a given.

I usually fight her using Joker and Akechi

Then to actually “run” the game as in play it through full I mostly fast forward through literally all of the dialogue. I watch some seems but like all confidant meetings is fast forward, anything that’s not directly connected to the central plot I usually skip/fast forward

I also know at this point basically every enemy weakness in palaces, where to go to get whatever I want, or who to put in the chair in a fusion alarm to get whatever I want, etc and you add in the fact that if you are actually good at the game merciless makes it faster because you deal 2.5x damage to enemies when you hit their weakness or do a technical and they do the same to you, and if I wanna do a clean run all the way to the end I can do it in like 40 hours

For new players using the fusion calculator I posted above is such an insanely helpful thing it likely would’ve shaved 1/4th of your time off at least so I recommend it bigly

That video above was me fighting foggy day which is a level 99 boss with joker alone on merciless and a barely got him in the 20 turn goal.

You can also fight full moon which is a level 99 version of the person 4 main character.

In order to fight the twins and then if you can beat them lavenza you can only do it in new game plus though, which kinda sucks.

You can forge sataneal in new game plus though, which is the thing you summon to kill the final boss of vanilla at the end, and he has access to that same move sinful shell which is just insane damage especially with the right passives

Fusion calculator wasn’t even really needed for me until the end and even then I just used it because I wanted a couple really good personas.

I guess I can see cutting down the time just skipping everything but main story, but you still have to go through almost an entire year. I did enjoy the game a lot, it was just a lot. Especially trying to do all the confidants

Have you played reloaded? Or is p5 your only persona experience?

I think people are really really going to enjoy 4 revival when it comes out I doubt a large majority of players who entered it with 5 have ever touched it due to it and the original 3 before reload not holding up too well.

The story is a lot better in 4 than 5 imo and the story in 3 is too for my money.

4 takes on an incredibly dark tone and when put in comparison to 5 where yes bad things do happen but in a nutshell you’re trying to reshape and reform the entire Japanese society, its scale by its nature detracts from its impacts, 4 is much more localized and personalized in its story

4 also imo has the best confidants, then 5, then 3 which has by far the worst it’s the worst part of the game unfortunately.

Still reload is one of the best remakes I’ve played

No and again, I did enjoy my time with Royal. However, I’m not in a rush to pick up a new atlus game that can take me another 100 hours. I don’t have the time to play the things I want to play right now

Fair enough for sure.

What games are playing right now, or wanting to?

I am really looking forward to the new tomb raider games that look way more faithful to the original so I’m playing through the reboot tomb raider trilogy again and I have to say, very slight wokeness aside in game 3 about muh stolen artifacts, these games are actually very good action adventure games and I and many others were way too harsh on them when they came out.
