Good system here..
Intel I7 $289
EVGA 670GTX $399
ASRock Mobo $124
GSkill 2 x 4gig Ram
Cooler Master Heatsink $29
WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD $109
Antec Mid ATX Tower $96
Corsair PSU 850W $149
Asus 23.6inch LED Monitor $159
LiteOn Blue Ray Drive $49
Logitech USB Gaming Keyboard $59
Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse $49
Thats around $1595 plus S/H for a pretty kickass computer from scratch.
Edit: I didn't add an SSD and you could SLI another 670GTX card. Would put it around $2K. I've got 285GTXs in SLI. My computer handles everything pretty easy. Dual 670s would be good for a long long time.

To be honest, only an idiot would drop $3k on a gaming rig. $1000-$1500 would build a monster computer with plenty of room to upgrade in the future, rather than buying a whole new PC.
If he insists on a pre-built computer, then ibuypower is the best place, IMO. If he is dead set on $3k, then LINK
Adjust some of the unneccesary shite, like 16GB RAM and some other tweaks to drop the price and get 2 video cards.

Everything looks good there except I would get the z77 extreme4. I think it's better for "future proofing" rigs

That's a pretty sweet case in that build.
