You could get another 2yrs out of that GPU.(even though it is 1.5yrs old already)
As for the CPU/MOBO combo, idk.. maybe 3-4yrs. I wouldn't push it though, if it would have been a Z77/Z87 chipset with IB/HW.. then I would say no doubt 4yrs.

He might, but im just thinking about HD4970s and GTX280s.

lol, I gotta say, it's difficult for me to even think about how long a CPU will last me (i.e. how long until I really needed to upgrade due to changing system requirements). I'm switching them out every 1.5 years, and the video cards maybe annually. I've been considering riding out these 7950s until nVidia 800 series releases, after which I'll look at the performance comparisons between that and volcanic isles. That's been my pattern with video cards, adopting the next generation about a year into its release (it's been all AMD cards for a while).
I really need to refrain from staggering my upgrades. I've been itching to do a full build from scratch.

You had some really sick builds over this last year. Then you would downgrade for formfactor then upgrade and backaround again.
