I will stick with ASUS routers just because Merlin's custom firmware.
Enjoy using his builds.
Edt: Wait how is this really an upgrade? Doesn't the AC66U have MIMO and AC?
Because Dual Core? (Which doesn't matter unless you have network traffic)
Edt2: Are you hardwired, whole house? This is one of the best things you can do for your network. The only thing for me which touches WiFi are cell phones and laptops.

I've been running Merlin on it for years, but the coverage was always lacking for me.
Much better range and speeds in my house on the Linksys so far, I couldn't even get WiFi out by my pool or very spotty at best, able to get full bars with the new one.

I agree its not the best. Currently have both 66U and 68U.
They are okay but depending on the device my backyard wouldn't even get decent coverage.

i have to say, i'm kinda bummed about the nighthawk so far. thought it would be better than what it is. not saying it sucks, but for the price i was expecting more

What doesn't it do that you thought it?
Posted on 7/21/17 at 6:20 pm to geauxtigers87
Yeah I had a bad experience with Netgear and won't go them again.
Posted on 7/21/17 at 6:22 pm to UltimateHog
Think I only owned Linksys and Asus routers.

Same, with the exception of one D-Link that was solid, the DIR 655 I think it was. The Netgear experience was the worst of them all.

this is my first foray into netgear. think it's my last.

When my ASUS router died i decided to give Netgear a shot and so far it's been very good.

My father who is very particular tech purchases liked this one so much he went and bought 2 of them.
I got one myself from Frys for $169.99 with a promo code.
Its a beast.

i5 6 core rumored to be $299. And I don't have to swap mobos... May do that if true and heat issues fixed.

If true, hopefully the motherboard manufacturers will provide BIOS updates for support on Z170 boards.
Posted on 7/22/17 at 2:06 pm to boXerrumble
They will I'm sure, my Z170 had an update for Kaby Lake support before it was even released.

Tired of explaining this Yes its a win but the chips are clocked almost 1GHz higher.
Yes it will draw more power.
It just shows that 4C @ 4.0GHz is where it starts. Hate how most sites cherry pick. It is a terrible story, Intel shtt the fckking bed but don't cherry pick 1080p benchmarks where we know DR kicks in for gaming.

I am loving it, have to disagree there.
4GHz Ryzen 6 core with the same FPS average and minimum's across 30 fricking games is WOWWWWW.
I love when these legit sites test TONS of games instead of cherry picking a few to make one or the other look better. HU and TS dropping the boom with some serious testing. Love seeing it.
L O L at high end custom loops required JUST for 4.7GHz on a 6 core and HU still suffered a burnt contact to boot.

Ryzen will hit 4GHz with the box cooler but it will be a more mild experience with a $20 aftermarket cooler like the Cooler Master 212, so keep that in mind. The 7800X on the other hand cannot be overclocked to 4.7GHz using a 240mm AIO closed loop solution. Instead, it required a $380 custom loop setup to achieve that result.
