some shitty rez this monitor has, 1366x768, but I do like to stream and the program I use (open broadcaster) likes to use card power iirc and it's starting to become a drag on my 560ti when I play newer games.

I was looking at this one too

If a scholarship I'm hoping on comes through, I may invest in a better monitor as well

The 670 is a useless card to get IMO. The 7970 is about the same price and outperforms it and the 7950 is equal in performance but cheaper. If you're sticking with nvidia, I would get the 660ti and save money, or shell out for one o the newer cards that just came out

Wow you need a newer monitor. That card is real good, that or the 7870 myst by powercolor are the same card basically. It's about like a 660ti you could say.

I've heard the same thing about the 660ti. I was originally going for that one until I read up and some folks said its performance isn't worth the dosh. I'll look at the 7950.

How do ATI perform in relation to nvidia? I know of some of the basic differences and some friends of mine had some compatibility issues with certain games. Is that still around, or were they just stupid?

Basically amd is beating nvidia at the price points right now. They both perform well. Nvidia has physx which most people seem to not care about and nvidia has sli which is better than crossfire. If you just have one card then it doesn't matter.

I still don't know why it only has 192 bit memory interface.

A lot of money for a card to have less than it's predecessor.

yeah I saw that and it concerned me. I'm leaning towards ATI at the moment since it seems like I can get better performance for the $, leaving me with some spare to pick up a better monitor.

edit:

$130 after all savings, seems decent

660ti is great if you don't use AA.

Yep, the 7870 must would Be a good upgrade for but but if you find a 7950 on sale for 30 dollars more then get it.

That's I just got this and it overclocks a pretty good. Way more power than I need for 1080p gaming with a 60hz monitor.

What he said. My 7870 maxes everything at 1080 except metro and I'm assuming fry cry and crysis. Those games are ridiculous though

I played Bioshock infinite on ultra and never dropped below 66 fps( I lock my frames and I have my monitor oc'd to 66 hz). I haven't tried FC3 blood dragon or Crysis 3 yet. I'm savings the tomb raider code for a prize for the next e-peen contest.

My 2 recommendations to max 1080
7870 ghz edition
This will max almost everything for cheaper

7950 for just gaming at 1080. Tahiti cores offer great performance at every price point.

If you want nVidia, get you a 770. 400 bucks for that card and those stock clocks is awesome. You will be able to enjoy some of the benefits nVidia does offer.

You can get a 7950 or $250 now. Hard to pass that up. Makes me want to upgrade but from a 7870 it's not a big enough jump to motivate me.
