There is almost zero need for a spinning disk in gaming PCs these days.
Only scenario I can think of is if someone is dumb enough to run a plex server off of the same PC they game on.

Plus with the size of maps, access time can cause "pop in".
Hu saying he sees no difference is nonsense.

Would a single Team MP34 1TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD get the job done instead of two separate drives?
Posted on 2/20/20 at 3:28 pm to RouxDog91
Easily. I might have 500gb used on my 2tb SSD. I don't just have a bunch of games unnecessarily installed on it. If I want to play a game I don't have installed, I download it and 15-20 minutes later it's installed

Yeah sure, I just recommend getting a low latency nVME drive for boot and large ssd be it SATA or nVME for media.
So something like 250GB nVME for boot and 1-2TB SSD SATA for media/games.
It allows you to beat the performance curve but still have large storage for games.

This.
Guess the whole point of this is, don't purchase a mechanical drive for your current needs.

Not to be "that" guy, but can you provide a link to the two drives you are recommending? I'm clueless to this crap

Oh my God. The same drive the boot will come from.
Games are programs not music files or video. I said to put that on the ssd anyway.
Yall are absolutely out of touch
It's idiotic to run a plex server on the same PC!? Hahaha hahaha
Zero interruptions, no buffering, almost zero strain on my computer and games yet it's idiotic..... Like I said, out of touch.
Go watch something to catch you up, Blue

Dude what are you even talking about..
Are you on drugs?
I mean, yeah.. but doesn't mean I store them on the boot drive. What is your point?

My point was put boot, games, and anything else that is cumbersome on a ssd and any mass storage needs like movies, music, or images go on a mass storage like a HDD because you can get 2TB for 60 instead of 200 for a 2TB SSD
Posted on 2/20/20 at 7:27 pm to Hu_Flung_Pu
We are talking purely gaming. We aren't even talking other storage needs.
If that is the case, he better get another HDD.

The point of this whole excercise was to try and get him an option to get away from mechanical too, for gaming. No one even talking about other storage, until maybe you brought it into the conversation.
I will also always suggest a quick boot drive and then large non ssd for mass game storage because many reasons.
Keeps your OS drive cache clean, makes it easy to reimage, saves you from terrible MS updates, easy to transfer your gaming library without many hiccups from upgrade to upgrade or build to build.

But just for images movies etc, mechanical is fine.
But idt that was the point of any of this, it was always just about a gaming build.

I always consider the entire system and all uses because I don't know what that person is understanding from my suggestions.
Consistently saying mechanical drives have no place in a pure gaming system is appropriate but nobody uses their most likely only PC for strictly gaming and they can use the extra money they saved on unnecessary improvements can go to a higher gpu or better monitor

I understand that, I just don't like this guess.
Specially since that poster has been talking about his build for a few weeks it seems.
All good.

People only have one PC? Are they poor?
Don’t even get me into stereo imaging and soundstage. Apparently systems without a center channel to lock everything in are bad. Lol

Mechanical drives have no place in modern gaming. This is known.
So not fckking with you.
