Game comes out tomorrow. The indie scene is currently full of 2D metroidvania type games and Ori and the Blind Forest helped kick off that craze.
It's a noticeably higher budget, higher production value title than most of those others though. Sort of in that middle ground between indie studio and triple AAA studio release.
First one was decently challenging, great artstyle, great soundtrack, etc.
Everyone is saying this next one largely surpasses the original and its getting pretty top notch reviews.
The devs have an exclusive agreement with Microsoft so as with the last one, game releases on Steam and Xbox only.

First one was great. That one segment where you had to escape up through the tree was pretty challenging, but I grinded until I beat it. The music was so good. Though not playing this right now.. just too much shite to focus on:
Metro Exodos Gold (just bought March 3- beating 2033 and Last Light first also)
Borderlands 3 (just bought today)
DOOM Eternal (just bought March 3 - comes out next Friday)
Rainbow Six Siege (Year 5 Season 1 dropped today with 2 new operators, I have the pass so I have early access)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (Warzone just dropped today and want to check that out)
Resident Evil 3 (preordered and it comes out April 3)
On top of that I still regularly play Overwatch.

Been waiting for this for years. Sad that it’s the only Microsoft exclusive worth a shite these days

Been playing it since release. They've made your character a lot more customizable. In addition to your innate moves you always have, you can equip 3 skills (which are basically like your attacks or special moves) and you can equip 3 (at first) spirit shards, which give you various bonuses, and you can upgrade them all and stuff.
You can build your character around extra agility, or attacking, or tanky for defense, def. gives it more depth.
The combat is more like real combat and there are actual boss fights now, I don't recall any true boss fights in the original
Also, the map has NPC's throughout now, who give you little side quests and there are little shrines where you can do challenges, like combat challenges or speed running challenges (get from point A to point B in under a certain time).
So yeah, it's essentially the same Ori formula as before, but with a lot more gameplay features and systems than before, all top notch so far.

Game also seems a fair bit longer than the original. Looks like I beat the original in about 14 hours on my first and only playthrough, and that includes being pretty thorough about getting all the pickups.
I've played this one about 6 hours and it says I'm 27% done, so seems like 20-25 hours for a first playthrough if you try to do everything.

Thus far I'm finding it noticably easier than Forest was, at least so far. I'm about 60% done according to the ingame %.
There hasn't been a lot of demanding platforming yet and the escape sequences have been much easier and shorter than the ones in Forest. I'm srue part of it is that this is my 2nd Ori game but I still think it's easier, at least in the first half.

Should I play the first before this one?

Might as well. The first isn't long and it's great. The story line doesn't really continue over games or anything though, outside of knowing the origin of a few characters. They really aren't story heavy games though.
