I think you're trying to steamroll through the main quests. I'm only level 4, but some of my weapons are at 19.

Haha. Alteration is a school of magic.
You can't cast fireballs in town or guards raise an eye.
But wandering around, you can cast oakflesh (armor boost) and muffle (decrease movement noise) in town.
Your mana regens constantly, and you end up leveling alteration school of magic, which in turn makes your char more powerful.
You gotta buy the spell books from a magey vendor though.
Also, restoration magic is necessary imo... Healing yourself is helpful

is that how you get different magic? Then you use it to build it up?

What's so awesome about the game is you get better at the skills you use. And then, you can boost them with with perks when you level up. However you want to play, the game allows you to do it and eventually, do it well.

yeah this game is really fun, frustrating at times but fun.

BT, work on your smithing. A Daedric sword is only 15 but with 100 smithing I have it at 62 with fire on that bitch. Dragon armor is legit too. I got my bitch, Lydia, decked out in Glass armor.

Fallout

Yeah, fallout was superb for its time, but skyrim is definitely the new hotness.
Lydia died early for me (I may have accidently set her on fire when she was crouching needing a heal)
But the followers from the mage colleges are some bosses.
Give Lydia some staves, she will cycle thru them and cast spells appropriately, then go back to sword and shield. I was amazed

If you want to level up destruction and restoration magic pretty fast, do the Companion quest where you have to prove yourself. When you fight that guy in the back courtyard, start using magic on him. He has a really fast respawn rate and will only attack you every once in a while (use healing). You can level to 100 in probably an hour or two.
*Now I realize this is a cheap glitch and in no way do I support the actions. However, it is helpful if you are looking for a character to just screw around with.*
