As if 1.4 couldn't contain any more features, it looks like anvils will make it into the update.
Anvils will allow you to do 3 things -
- Repair items
- Name items (any object can be named)
- Combine (similar) enchants
The XP cost will scale with the amount of times you've modified a particular item, so you won't be able to repair/rename the same item interminably.
So, the full changelog for the 1.4 update looks like this...
- Anvils.
- Item frames.
- Pots.
- New food - carrots, golden carrots, potatoes, poisonous potatoes, baked potatoes, and pumpkin pie.
- New mobs - Wither boss, Wither Skeletons, Witches, and bats.
- New terrain feature - Witch huts will spawn in swamps.
- Slimes now spawn in swamps at night.
- Entities not only pass through Nether Portals, but retain momentum.
- New item - wooden buttons, which can be activated by arrows.
- New potions - night vision potion, invisibility potion. An invisibility potion will also hide a player's name on servers.
- New block/item - Beacons
- Chickens are now bred with seeds, and pigs with carrots.
- The direction of wooden logs is dictated by where they're placed on an adjacent block (as opposed to their direction being dictated by the position of the player).
- Players can now ride pigs. Requires a new item - carrot on a stick.
- Zombies can now infect villagers, and can pick up your armor if you die (which can be reacquired if you kill the zombie).
- Some mobs, such as skeletons and zombies, may spawn donning weapons and armor.
- Enhanced trading system with villagers - they can now like or dislike you based on your actions towards them, and their attitude towards you will dictate the quality of potential trade options.
- Cobblestone/mossy cobblestone fences added.
- Leather armor and dog collars can be dyed.
- Corner stairs are now possible.
- Trapdoors can now be placed on the top or bottom of a block.
- Heads are now a rare drop from skeletons, wither skeletons, creepers, and zombies. They can be placed as decoration or worn by a player.
- New sounds added - ladders, minecarts, animals, mobs, water, lava, etc.
--------------------
Would anyone be interested in starting a new map for 1.4? I think a new map, coupled with the massive update, could renew interest for some, and could perhaps bring in a few new players. I know others have invested a lot of time in the current map (myself included), and would therefore be opposed to this.
It doesn't matter either way to me, though. I think a constant map refresh keeps things new, especially when it's concurrent with the release of a new update.

I thought 1.4 was a soft fix in that you didn't have to do any resets.
I used it on my single player then had to delete it to play on the TD server.

I wouldn't be opposed. However we really need a great seed.

When 1.4 is released in a few weeks, I think the server files, Bukkit, and individual plugins will all need to be updated.
Bukkit took about 7-10 days to update after 1.3 was released.

We have other things in place.
Do /sethome then try /home when you want to go back there.

I have big plans for item frames and the other things in Minecraft.
I just don't think it's necessary to start a new map when we just did.

What are the "frames" what purpose will they serve?

Like bulletin boards where you can put an item inside to display that item.
You can search forums and pictures to see all the creative things players have done with frames.

Actually constructing a stadium on our map

There is nothing worse than mining and having 128 Iron, 32 gold , 12 diamonds, and tons of other stuff, and getting pushed into the lava.
So upset that the last five hours were wasted.
then the server just closed.
I found this large abandoned mine that led to a fifteen level high cave full of iron and other goodies.
I have been mining the hell out of it. I have a quarry and two back entrances.
Definitely getting into this game.

You've just discovered part of the gameplay that is really crucial to immersion.
What I mean is that there is really no "save" feature on a server. That means you have to be careful. You have to make trips to your chest to deposit stuff you don't want to lose.
It's all part of the game. There's danger around every corner.

Is that what that huge swathe of missing rock is?

Posted on 10/13/12 at 11:51 am to Pectus
Yeah, I get it now.
I was playing around on single player and made a similar mistake. I got lost in my mine.
I saw diamond ore on the floor. So I mined, and fell through to lava.
That was a dirty booby trap there.

I think we should try a groupo project. We should pick a piece of land, and make a theme park. And every player builds a ride at it.
Using Mine carts.
We can have waterslides, roller coasters, a haunted house, build a mob stadium, I think it would be fun. Then we could all have a goal, and a place to interact and do something besides survive.
Also I was looking online and some people have a "tech" update, where you have alloys and electric ovens and such.
Also a saddle to ride the pig.

That's the snapshot turned 1.4 version.
There's also other patches like industrial craft. It gets pretty elaborate. All are different levels of tech and immersion.
I like your theme park idea. Find a spot and lay out the perimeter. I call waterslide!

I'm trying to figure out the mine carts still.
I got a powered one, but I can't get it to work.
How do you make a powered rail?
