When I started playing the other day I thought my little sand/sandstone shelter would suffice - didn't finish building the roof though and got mauled by spiders. I lived in the side of a mountain for a while until I had the material to start building a house. Didn't expect it to be that difficult the first day to survive.

yesterday was my first day playing, i just dug down...then down...then down. my house was literally three spaces long, lol..but i dug for miles!

That's usually what I do too. I gather wood, a few stone, and coal. Make a little shelter, preferably a hole in the side of a mountain, and then I just dig down. I usually dig at an angle and make like a staircase and go all the way down to bedrock. If I gather enough wood I make ladders and go straight down, though.
Definitely make sure you make plenty of torches and keep your area well-lit.

Enderman hate water so they die in rain, but other than that it currently really serves 0 purpose but to be overly loud.

Hulk, you notice the audio delay in 15? I have issues like that too, do you have to sync the sound in vegas or does it record in fraps?

No what happened there is I acidentally recorded the whole thing without recording microphone input on accident.
So I had to go back with Audacity and commentate that way. Happened with 16 too, debating whether or not I should just scrap it. To answer the question, it records in fraps.

I set up an account, but just saw this... It mentions cross compatibilty with PCs so would those that wait for it to come out on xbox be able to join this server?
I don't really have any idea how all this works. I'm interested in the game and might buy it this weekend but if it's coming out for xbox soon I might wait.
eta: Just checked and they have a demo and a pay version on the Android Marketplace. Playing the demo now.
