I know this is petty but did yall keep English text and Japanese voice? Or switch the Japanese voice to English?

English text and Japanese voice. Wanted it to be all authentic and stuff.

My next play-through I'm going to shift to English voices to see how the quality of voice acting compares.

Well finished off sword saint and demon of hatred. Both took a little time to get down. Cheers to my fellow Shinobi

The orge took me far too many tries. I need to get back to being patient. Loving the game so far though.

I’m all ears for tips on beating Genichiro.

That mother fricker has killed me probably 100 times. I’ve never been so frustrated playing a game in my life.

Earlier I was playing it perfect. Zoomed through his first life, full health/gourds. I take some hits but I finally get his 2nd life down and kill his arse. I started screaming/talking shite to him.... only for him to become lightning man and destroy me. Back to the beginning.

Lighting phase is easiest. Very squishy without his armor. Stay on top of him. If you see the kanji appear for his lightning attack, wait a half second, jump, then hit R1 to redirect the lightning back at him

For those struggling with Genichiro 3rd phase: here’s an easy way to whip his arse. All you need to do is mikiri his leap attacks and redirect his lightning attacks (which take like 1/5 of his health). I didn’t think I’d need to resurrect, but I fricked up in the middle when Wolf wouldn’t sprint and he poked me. Nonetheless, watch this to learn the lightning timing and couple it with a few mikiris for an easy win

This is on NG+ without Kuro’s charm (if you elect to play without it, enemies hit harder and have more hp/posture. It’s like a hard mode for NG+)

LINK

ETA: I should’ve just recorded the whole fight, it’s so fun. You can beat the living frick out of him on NG in no time once you know his patterns. I’ll start doing boss vids soon

that fricking blazing bull is the new Capra Demon. my god, that thing wrecked me. i normally dont get too upset playing From games, but the grind on this dude really got to me. 2 hrs of horrible frustration, bad rng, and no progress until i decided to bum rush his arse and in so doing found out the strat.

what tripped me up was after spending the time to learn how to beat lady butterfly and gyoubu the "sekiro" way, they turn it around on you and throw in an ole hug the butt and slash boss. nearly ruined me

Finally got him tonight!

The only other soulsbourne game I have played was Bloodbourne, but I beat that. I can say without any doubt that Genichiro gave me more trouble than any other boss in Sekiro and BloodBorne. I died so many times that I was questioning if it is even possible to win

I kept charging in frustrated right after losing and that just led to me making dumb moves. Calmed down, went in and made sure I could identity every move he had. Got through the first two phases pretty easily.

He smoked me right out of the gate in phase 3, had half health and he killed me, but I had one resurrect. Got 3 perfect lightning counters on him and then just went for the kill and I got him!!!

awesome, great work. those redirects are so OP, even on NG+

I'm glad it's clicking for yall. the endgame bosses are very punishing to those who play this like Souls. You have to play on Sekiro's terms or you will get smashed. So many people online are trying to play the game like Souls and make it to the end, then just get rinsed by the last few bosses. pays to unlearn your habits early and play by Sekiro's rules. There are several more Genichiro-esque fights with guys that are more aggressive and punishing, but you will be better by then and it wont be as much of a mindfrick as Genichiro was.

Genichiro is the gatekeeper for the early part of the game, requiring you to have a grasp of the fundamentals in order to beat him. You can't really cheese him. If you beat him, you can beat the whole game.

so immensely fun and satisfying when everything comes together. NG+ without the charm is brutal for me right now. If NG is learning the game's systems, NG+ (esp without charm) is mastering the systems. very little room for error since you take damage on regular blocks. if you aren't getting perfect deflects, you're taking damage.

the ape fight is literally the lamest thing i've done in this game. Its repetitive as shite. Long as hell. His reach is obscene on his grab. Its not even hard, but im so impatient. At least the genichro ashina fight was fun.

Deflecting on the ape is literally pointless, it goes against everything in the game.

end of rant, will try later

this is how you will describe every boss fight after your initial attempts. he is a joke once you learn his shite. he has some very exploitable attacks you need to bait out. deflects work.

if you still have trouble, ill do a vid later.

I did the 'bad' ending route for my NG+ playthrough.

I was surprised at how abruptly that ending went. I would have expected there to be at least a little bit of unique content for that path but you really just get two unique boss fights and that's it. Anyone who picks this route their very first playthrough is missing out on the final act of the game and locking themselves out of a ton of good items.

In fairness, they do make it really clear the bad choice is bad. They even ask you "are you sure" just in case you selected without really reading or thinking.

Outside of dying to the new final boss 4-5 times while I learned the fight, I only died maybe 5-6 times total in NG+ (final deaths, as in respawn from idol deaths). And it took about 20 hours to get to the decision point, being thorough and killing everything and getting all times and what not.

I'll def. do more playthroughs in the future to see the other endings and platinum the game, but will take some time off for awhile.

i finally beat him. Thanks for the tips. It was a matter of keeping some spirit emblems to use the spear on his second form. He was a bitch. Especially if you lack patience.

yep, firecracker works really well too for first phase. you can get lots of free shots in.

2nd phase gave me trouble at first because of the weird timings, but he goes down quick if you can bait that overhead smash. the AOE is the only real threat.

Another thing of note, you can defeat Genichiro in the prologue fight (I did in NG+) and it gives you a slightly different cut scene but everything else progressest he same.

If you lose like you're supposed to he just chops off your arm.

If you win, he's like kneeling defeated in front of you but then one of his henchmen throws some shuriken at you and you get distracted to deflect them and in that moment he chops off your arm and he says something like there is a difference between honor and victory.
