To be honest, nothing drastic. With all of the legendaries staying put, there's no need to try and get a particular weapon or piece of armor right now. The only things you can do are really just having your glimmer and marks maxed out. Not sure how much you know about it, but they're doing away with Vanguard and Crucible marks and going to Legendary marks, so there is just one currency in that department. Once it drops, your Vanguard and Crucible marks will convert in to commendations. It will be one commendation for every 50 marks, so if you're maxed out, you can get up to 8 per character. The commendations will do the same thing that they did when HoW dropped and give like 500 rep if I remember correctly.
The only other thing I could think of, and this is if you really want to get a head start, is bump all of your factions to just below the next rank up and save some bounties, so you can rank up and get faction packages the day TTK drops. With this being closer to a full game than a DLC, I don't think it's as important to try and race to the highest level. Especially considering the raid isn't coming out right away.

That's true, not sure if I care that much about any of those weapons for crucible though. Aren't they saying to hold on to legendaries and break them down after the update? Did they say what we get?

Chances are they will give you old guns I believe. As if you did that before any of the expansions you still got old guns.

I am yet to ever even see a purple engram, or get a legendary gun from a blue engram. I don't think they're real at this point.

Yeah, stuff could still be useful in regular crucible, but I'm someone who still won't use it, because I like to stay consistent with what I use. I wouldn't want to use old stuff for regular PvP, then Trials or IB roll around and I have to use different stuff.
They said to wait on breaking stuff down. I've been holding on to everything just in case. There's just no reason to level anything.

You'll get HoW gear whether you decrypt it now or later, but I've been holding on to some engrams to turn in once it drops so I can rank up with the Cryptarch and get my first package quicker.

Just imagine the frustration of the good ole days when you'd finally see one of those purple engrams, only to have it turn in to a blue item or shards/energies.

I think it happened to me once
Have they said what they are doing with all the year 1 legendary and exotic weapons that aren't getting bumped up? are they resetting all their weapon damage at year 1 max? I have some exotics/ legendary weapons that are still at pre expansion damage levels and didn't know if it was worth even trying to bump some of them up.

This is a good summary of what's going on with old gear. Not all of the current exotics are moving forward now, but they've insinuated that the ones that don't may come back down the line. As far as legendaries go, none of them are carrying over. Stuff like Fatebringer and Vision may still be useful with burns turned on, but that's about it. I'd just hold on to what you have and don't worry about upgrading anything until after.
