Has anyone out there played >Observer? It's made by Bloober, the same team that made Layers of Fear. From the trailer it's a cyberpunk/horror mashup that looks really good. It got very positive reviews. I'm probably going to pick it up, but I was curious if anyone here has played it, and if so what your thoughts about it were.

hated Layers of Fear and thought Observer was painfully mediocre.
im a sucker for horror and cyberpunk so i thought this would be a homerun. just like layers of fear, it's more of a haunted house ride than a game. very limited and basic collection/exploration mechanics, hard to navigate since everything looks the same, tiresome cat and mouse segments, and countless technical issues (I played on PS4). constant screen tearing and frame rate drops. Rutger Hauer phoned in one of the worst voice acting performances I've ever heard.
story was actually pretty cool though. i wouldnt pay more than $5 it. sad I paid $30 or whatever it was at release.

Thanks for the reply. I actually enjoyed Layers of Fear for what it was. It wasn’t a particularly deep or challenging game, but it did a good job of storytelling and creating a very spooky atmosphere. I am disappointed to find that >Observer is more of the same, though. The trailer made it look more involved than LoF.
I’ll peobably still pick it up, eventually.

I thought it would be as well. It has more gameplay elements, but it’s still weak
Worth a pickup on sale if you’re a fan of the genre

Resurrecting this thread to say that shortly after this discussion, Observer was placed on GamePass, so I was able to download and play it. I completely (but respectfully) disagree with your take on the game. I thought it was visually stunning, and they added enough gameplay elements in to make it feel like an actual game, and not just a thrill park ride. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of sci-fi, cyberpunk, or horror. It would be a good Halloween choice, if you’re looking for one.

that's fine. do you honestly think it would be worth $40? be honest

maybe they've since patched it (I played it very close to release). a technical mess with tons of screen tearing and constant frame rate dips when I played it. I even took a couple weeks off and restarted hoping that they had put out a patch. Nope.

i just disagree here. cat and mouse segments were vanilla as can be, and the crime scene investigations were just walking around clicking on stuff in different vision modes
like I said, I would've been fine if it was a $5 or $10 indie game. It just wasn't worth the $40 I paid for it at release. i'd only recommend it to big cyberpunk and horror fans that can look past the mediocre gameplay elements. art design and story were pretty good imo. im a complete sucker for the genres and desperately wanted to like the game. just not enough meat on the bone for me
