If they focus test this thing with even one child they'll witness them constantly touching the screen to make selections while using it. It's the reason my standard PC monitor has my children's fingerprints all over it despite them knowing how to use a mouse. It's how people interact with screens now.
and touchscreen
Also, the future of Mario Maker sequels (and any spin-off games of the same ilk) depends on touch screen. The second screen stuff sucks to lose but very few games use it. Mario Maker simply mirrors what's on the Wii U gamepad. Wonderful 101 does actually use it for some interesting gameplay moments, though, and it makes me a little sad that will be lost.

I think it is almost certain that it won't be a powerful console. Don't get your hopes up for that.
If I had to bet it seems it will be a bit below the Xbox one.

However, one good, maybe really good, indicator is Gamefreak. True Pokemon games are always handheld. Always. If they announce a legit Pokemon, not a Snap or Pokken, then that's a telling sign.
A Pokemon announcment will basically confirm all of my questions on whether this thing is also Nintendo's main portable as well.
Think of the library if this is their portable as well as console.
Holy. shite......

All my tvs have fingerprints and it drives me nuts

If its hovering around PS3/Xbox1 capabilities, that's powerful. I'm not forgetting that the catch is versatility. It's a handheld gaming device as well. If it surpasses that then yeehaw
If I could combine iPad, PS3, and my 3ds...that's insane

Somewhat bad news:
NX/Switch is not backwards compatible with either system.

It lacks the power to emulate Wii U games,
That was all speculation, no specs have been released.

The vita does that already. Raise your standards man.

I find it unlikely to play wii u games

I'll have to find it again, but I saw a tweet stating that it wouldn't play Wii U or 3DS games.

The vita isn't also a console and tablet as far as I know and Nintendo has properties that are instantly recognizeable worldwide.
The mass consumer appeal if done right is pretty astounding. I'm not banking on it being that. As a consumer, it's Nintendo I'll buy it. As someone interested in business strategies, its eyebrow raising potential. People say $350 is expensive but if it's a tablet with app streaming, app gaming, internet, cellular data even, email, while being a Nintendo console and a Nintendo handheld

But hey, as a Wii U owner I would be ecstatic if Nintendo announced it did.

The graphics for this will be better than wii u but the chip it strong enough to emulate it, is that the speculation?

That could have been in, talking about playing the old discs and cartridges.

It's not the power, it's the architecture of the system. It's why Ps4 can't emulate PS3 games. In order to make up for the difference it would have to be significantly more powerful since they are so different.

quote:The speculation is the power of the chip in the Nintendo Switch. NVIDIA has been working on a new Tegra X2 chip but it hasn't been released yet. NVIDIA is making the chips for the Switch and has said it's a "custom Tegra processor." People are speculating that the specs of this custom chip are probably close to the unreleased X2.

Apparently the architecture of the Tegra X1 and X2 is very different from the PowerPC chip in the Wii U so Nintendo can't simply feed the Wii U's games into a Tegra based console. This means it can't run it natively so it would need to emulate a PowerPC chip. That requires more processing overhead than simply running the game natively. This is why it takes a PC that is significantly more powerful than a Wii to emulate Wii games at full speed. You have a layer of software "pretending" to be a Wii console. It is unlikely a Tegra X2 could do that based on the specs that have been released.

Ok. I kind of get it
In dumb dumb terms will this hover around PS3 or closer to PS4 if the custom chip is pretty much the x2
