The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony are working on new loot box policies for their platforms that would disclose a range of odds for a player's purchase.

"As well, many of the leading video game publishers of the Entertainment Software Association have decided that they are going to implement a similar approach at the publisher level to provide consumers this information and give them enhanced information to make purchase decisions."

Step it the right direction, I guess, but it's still basically gambling, IMO. Sounds like they're starting to feel the scrutiny, which has been building for awhile.

If I'm going to spend real dollars, which get expensive when you're just buying skins, I want to know exactly what I'm getting.

They need to leave that shite to mobile game devs.

If it costs more to develop a game just fricking own up and say it costs more.

Is sic going to give credit to Nintendo that none of their first or 2nd party games do this.....?

I'm glad they are involved in the convo for 3rd party games though.

Sic would never do this, might even take a jab at Nintendo by saying something to the effect of: "of course Nintendo doesn't do this, 5 year old don't have credit cards"

That's a good one.

But I couldn't give two shits about the loot box issue, so fix what you think needs fixing, big guys.

They need to drop that entire concept, honestly. It’s incredibly annoying to buy a game and not have access to a good portion of the best content without paying even more.

Just front load the cost and let me enjoy the game once it’s on.

Fans don't like to hear the truth if it goes against their own belief system.

Just go over to the movie / TV board and point out the obserdities in the marvel movies or go to the OT and drop the bomb on them that OG is going away... or go to the poli board and point out the extremely stupid things that Trump has done. Nobody likes it

Again, I'll say I want to like Nintendo, it's my origin in the gaming world. But they make dumb decisions that are dumb on every standard, yet the hard core crowd will defend and explain to me why it's a good thing they can't figure out simple things like voice chat.

This is baffling to me also. I want to play ultimate alliance with my brother but I'm not about to sit on the phone for hours.

This. If a fully complete, functional game needs to cost $100 for it to make money, then just f'ing charge that.

All this carnival game crap is just poison.

The really sad part of this whole loot box problem is I bet a large portion of the gaming base don't touch it... Yet loot boxes make up like 50% of companies like EA's profit these days.

It means (if I'm reading the data correctly) that there is a segment of loot box addicts that spend way more on loot boxes than the original game these days.

The other baffling thing: in order for EA to justify no loot boxes, your game would have to be $130, not $100

The unit doesn't have the resources to dedicate. How sad..

I feel the same way. Enjoy their 1st party games but they do deserve to be shtt on for some decisions.

Really? I feel like this issue goes right at the core of "real" gaming. To each his own I guess.

I should clarify: I feel it's an issue that needs to be remedied, especially if it preys on kids with absentee parents, but I don't purchase these in any form, so it doesn't personally affect me.

I’m fine paying $100+ for a game like red dead, the Witcher, etc.

The thing that will piss me off is when we start getting half made games for $100.
