Nier Replicant: Remastered

I have only played Automata in this series, so I’m pretty excited about this release on 4/24. Who else is going to pick this up?
For some gameplay: LINK. The combat has supposedly been reworked to be more like Automata.

Very excited. I loved the original and this one looks to be a great upgrade

I really tried to get into Automata, but the story just dragged out. I couldn't even finish the first playthrough. I really like knocking out side quests, and I think maybe that's not how that game is intended to be played because it made it super boring for me.
Was really happy for the "cheat code" method that recently came out so I could get a bunch of those achievements and knock out this month's Game Pass quest.

Where does this one fall in regards to the timeline?
I loved Automata, didn’t know a sequel or whatever this is was coming out.

8,000 years before I believe. This is the best timeline video about the Drakengard and Nier universes ( VIDEO)
Keep in mind, DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED. It's literally all of the Drakengard 1, 3, Nier, and Nier Automata spoilers.
But yes, I'm pumped to play it again with something of an actual budget.

Thanks for that link. The storyline is interesting.

I really tried. I think I spent a solid week just playing that game. The story was really interesting, but the sidequests all felt like "fetch quests" that had you traversing the entire map looking for small items, and I was also frustrated by the map. At times it looked like there were quicker routes I could utilize based on the map, but then I'd get to them and I guess I needed to advance the story more before I could use those. I got to the part where you're supposed to go underground before putting it down. Had cleared almost every side quest to that point.

This isn't the type of game where you rush side quests 100% before the main story. They have things built into the game where you can finish them very easily. There is nothing missable in this game.

If the game punishes you for doing sidequests, then it's just not going to be the game for me.

it doesn't punish you lmao. just progress like most games want you to - do a main mission or two, do a few sidequests, do another main mission, etc.
many of the sidequests have tie-ins to the main story and foreshadow or give extra exposition on certain things. do everything. the 2nd half of the game is a roller coaster ride of unforgettable sequences

Can't be overstated.

When does that second half start? I may fire it back up if I'm close.

i'll try to explain without being spoilery
Route A is what you're playing now. After the credits roll, you will play Route B. This is basically Route A, but with 9S as your playable character. Mostly the same content (but you play as him instead of 2B during the divergent points), but you will gain a ton of new insights thanks to 9S's scanner-type android. He has a very OP ability that allows you to blaze through very quickly. You will learn much more about the backstory of the machines with him
After that, Part 2 begins. It has its own intro credit sequence (like the opening of a TV show). Here, you will alternate characters and experience entirely new content. This is where all the "congrats, you finished the prologue" comments come from online. This is a pretty staggering revelation when you don't know its coming (why i didnt want to explain) but maybe this will incentivize you.
Part 1 is very tropey by design - it's filled with stereotypical moments, predictable plot beats, "video gamey" stuff, etc
Part 2 takes all of the and turns it on its head. Total genre subversion that will have you doing " " multiple times.
Amazing game with the GOAT soundtrack to boot. Enjoy
Don't be scared to blast through Route B with only main missions. Nothing is missable as you get Mission Select once you finish.

It's not punishing you. You're punishing yourself for choosing to avoid the best part of the game. I'm just saying that the compulsion to do all side quests before advancing the main story is counter-intuitive in this game.

This is really what I was trying to say. If you don't find the side quests engaging right this minute, then please the main story. It's worth the effort.

So fricking ready for this game. NieR Automata was one of my favorite games I played last year. Loved the exploration and combat. I've kinda been avoiding a lot of trailers for this game since I want to have some surprise element here, so not sure what changes have been made.
Between this game and New Pokemon Snap, RIP my wallet

I love how this is a thread about Replicant, but everyone is talking about Automata
Don't get me wrong though, Automata is one of my favorite games of all time! I played Nier on PS3, but stopped on my second playthrough when I heard about this coming out (I know, different main character). I probably shouldn't have done that, but here I am now.
I was pretty late to all of the Nier stuff, but so glad I found them when I did

Just finished ending A on nier automata. I'm ashamed it took me this long to really dig into this game. On to ending B. How are you guys enjoying replicant?
