I actually really enjoyed the last need for speed. Probably give this a go

Wasn’t there a need for speed where you shot people?

Really wish they’d make another Underground. You’d think it would sell a shite ton

I think it looks good. Scares me they didn't show any Toyotas.

Wish I could get back into racing games but Horizon sucked me dry with how much i played it.

For the NFS games released this gen, I've had the benefit of playing Need for Speed (2015) and Payback a couple years after release.
Eventually they turn into decent games. 2015's biggest problem was the always online meant I couldn't pause or easily restart a race. The overworld with all its narrow roadways didn't feel like it meshed well with the handling model. Speaking of the handling model, it may well have just been a ridge racer game
I like Payback a bit better. It feels like a more arcade-influenced Forza Horizon. Handling isn't great, but cars do have more weight. You have a big open map that's pretty varied in appearance with a lot of open world activities like drift challenges, speed snapshots, etc to do on your way to races. The offroad races are absolutely terrible though. The camera shake makes it impossible to see what's going on, and you can barely maintain control of your car. There's also some nasty rubberbanding going on.
The progression system is the dirt worst. Of course now they shower you with money and cards to use for upgrades, but the random nature of it is beyond annoying. Each subsequent race requires a car with better and better cards which makes it inconvenient to buy new cars then have to level them up as well.
