Thank goodness. It's time to put 5 out to pasture.

I can't understand why these games dont pull me in. I WANT to like them so bad, I do enjoy them, but rarely am I floored about how amazing they are like many are. Just one of those things I guess.
Vice City is the only one that has blown me away. I loved everything about that game.
I enjoyed 5s story, but it's beyond time for a new one.

I finally gave 5 a solid try after a few years worth of attempts, and I absolutely loved it. Want to try the online bit but it's so hard for me to coordinate co-op time now.
I foolishly thought this would be enough to make me like Red Dead's awful control scheme. Not one bit.
In theory, I should love GTA games. In a sense, esp 5, are similar to FC and FO games. Tons of exploring, world building.
Something about Rockstar games I just don't enjoy.

I prefer to just screw around instead of doing missions.

I'm down for a New Orleans setting, though Mafia III and RDR2 have both covered this recently.
I think some place like Atlanta would give you the most diversity as far as southern locations is concerned. You'd have a big metro city and could work in the Appalachians and possibly the low-country or Savannah.

Love Atlanta, but it would be kinda boring for the game. They could do something similar to San Andreas where they could have Atlanta, New Orleans, and Memphis or Nashville or something. Similar to your idea. I think ATL to Memphis or New Orleans is similar in distance as LA to SF. Routes would include Smoky Mountain/Hillbilly territory and Florbama type areas. Have a bunch of Trevors running around

I’d like to see them take the setting to London

GTA: Baton Rouge. Try to make an escape after a heist with BR traffic, visit the trailer parks in Livingston Parish, or cause a multi car wreck on the basin bridge

Always surprised me they haven't gone back to London

I’d like to see them tackle Asia, specifically Japan. I know that the Triads in San Andreas were Chinese, but our protagonist could easily go up against a Japanese crime syndicate. Add in their car culture and I think you’d have the backdrop for a fun game

Forza Horizon 4 was set in England. I’ve been playing for a year and I still find myself driving on the wrong side of the road.
