The amount of people that don’t know how to attack the 2-3 zone is alarming. Played a dude as the Kings last night as I was the Pacers. Wasn’t a bad user but cared wayyy too much about trying to use a few spin combos to beat my guys off the dribble. I went 2-3 and completely stifled his offense.

This game is so much better when I’m not playing the Nets. It’s a chore to ply against James Harden PnR and then he posterizers the defender anytime I don’t bring help into the paint. Also 2k has ruined tier 3 for however long they’re keeping the Nets in tier 3. They bumped the Kings to tier 2

ETA: the Nets are a tier 2 team again.

I just played back to back games against the same guy. I’m the Blazers in both games. The first game they were the Hawks. In this game, I go 3-2 zone (been experimenting with this one since the 2-3 zone is so popular) from the beginning. One of the things I like to do when playing zone is meeting the ball carrier about half court. Maybe a step or two inside. This doesn’t make any sense IRL as it makes it easy for the ball handler to penetrate the zone but 2K gonna 2K. Why I like to do this is simple for the most part. Then zone already renders the PnR useless. I’m trying to force a turnover and get the offense playing fast and loose. They’ll drive into the paint then kick when my defenders are sitting in lanes. And cuz it’s 2K actions are delayed. They’ll see a defender start to rotate from the wing to the inside then pass. Now the defender moves back and by the time the pass is initiated it’s picked off.

I go 2-3 zone and like a described above, I’m pressuring the ball handler from about half court. This poor guy has never seen this before. Drives paint, kicks out, picked off, fastbreak, score. I’m now up 12-3 after 3 straight possessions like this. I’m not even playing offense. Trae Young drives, either tries to dump off to Capela and can’t or kicks outside too early. I’m up 19-5 at end of the 1st Q. 2nd Q is much the same and the guy quits when it’s like 52-32 or late 3rd. A couple Trae Young 3s and me goofing off allowed for him to trade baskets with me after we got midway thru the 2nd. I was being a jerk and flopping after buckets and tried an oop to myself with Simons that I knew wouldn’t work. The guy must’ve felt insulted and did the same on the end right before he quit. I did a quick pause unpause too after a Dame 3. I’m kinda a douche depending on the game and team. Even though I had the better team, I despise playing the Hawks. They were insanely good last year and Trae Young with the Twin Towers was untouchable.

2nd game I match with him. He’s the Wolves and as noted above I’m the Blazers. Before last night, I’d feel pretty good about this one. The guy I’m playing seems to be trash. He has an idea of what to do but isn’t really sure how to work the ball around. The wolves are mostly bad outside of 2 and a half players (DLoading is actually really good on here). So why am worried? I played as the Twovles last night against the Pacers. I didn’t even look at their roster. I just know they got KAT, DLoading is mediocre irl, Edwards is starting to figure it out at times. Other than how they play irl I couldn’t tell you what anyone’s attributes might be. I get to playing and first thing I do is get the ball to KAT. High pick and roll with Rubio (why my defender is even half attempting to guard Rubio idk), dump to KAT on the roll. Bucket. Okay it’s just like any other year. KAT is a handful and he’s going to be 99% of my offense. I tried to posterize one of the Holidays a few times but with Edwards but he doesn’t have any badges iirc and turns everything into a layup. I steal the ball and on the break with DLO I pull back, crossover and cut across the key for a pull-up mid. Bucket. I noticed DLo has really nice handles. He kinda feels like a poor man Kyrie. I can break down my defender going any direction. Another fastbreak opportunity, I kick it out to DLo, crossover one of the near the 3pt line, now it’s just me and Turner at the rim. I dribble in, spin out to the opposite side. Turner follows but is too slow. Layup is good. DLo might be my new favorite player to use. Then KAT came along. I hit a few 3s with KAT which my opponent then out of frustration went in and must’ve changed his D settings on KAT to SMOTHER and DENY BALL cuz Turner never left his hip again. High Pick and fade now. I’m in complete control and it’s not like my opponent is that bad. He’s tried on ball D, off ball D, sagging, etc.. Never did try zone or leaving Rubio completely. KAT is force to be reckoned with and DLo might be his best 2K self yet. The rest of the team is still terrible and the bench might be one of the worst in the game. I’d send them on the floor and pound the ball into the court for 23 seconds waiting for the starters to rest and come back on.

Okay back to my game vs the Wolves. From the first game I noticed he was playing Young with virtually no rest. Maybe came off the floor once and for minute tops. First few possessions and he’s giving the ball to KAT then posting up. Hmm so he does know how to beat a zone. Kick out to Edwards. Goes down. On the opposite side of the floor I miss an open 3 with Derrick Jones Jr (I run Powell with the bench unit). KAT scores in transition. I get a decent look with Nurkic but miss. Edwards hits a 3. Okay I’m a little frustrated. I had maybe 10 turnovers in the first game when we were still trying on maybe 15 possessions and now he’s making the right read. Also Edwards wouldn’t hit an open three for me if my life depended on it. On offense I can’t get anything to go down. He’s off balling pretty hard with KAT which imo isn’t that bad. There’s a lot of disdain for offball in the 2k community but the servers are terrible and with the input lag it’s really hard to play good onball defense consistently. He’s kinda in my head. I normally have no problem beating offball defense but I can’t get an open look to go down. Also defensively when I do contest the shot, there’s a foul. Nurkic had 4 fouls in 3 mins of play! Two were the lazy AI reaching in for no reason on the perimeter. My zone is getting shredded. I’m down 19-5 at end of the 1st and even 27-7 into the 2nd. I tell myself once Rubio comes on the floor I’m going to Man to man and making this guy play 4 v 5 on offense. A couple of turnovers and the RNG luck coming around and I’m able to get this within 12 by the half. Once Okagie and Culver come on the floor, I go back into a zone but I’m not actively trying to rotate into the corners. If they get an open 3, I’d rather have that then PnR. More misses and the starters come back. Back to man. I think I closed it to a 7pt game by the end of the 3rd.

This is where it gets a little spicy. Earlier in the game my opponent was being a douche back to me. After a dunk they paused then unissued it. I think that’s when I went down 20. They didn’t do the flipping I do but I could tell this guy was waiting. Tbh I deserved it. To start the 4th I started to trap DLo on screens with Runio’s defender (Dame) and then cheating into the lane with Nurkic to cut off KAT. He doesn’t want to give it to Rubio. I got back in the game by leaving him but I wasn’t trapping or being aggressive. Now I’m going for it. I can feel the game slipping and need him to get loose with it. He kicks to Rubio and CJ comes off DLo and I switch to Dame to cut off his drive. Now DLo is open wtf. Open three goes down. I go to my settings and do a couple things. Catch Hedge on the PnR, Stay attached, and leave Rubio. Now it’s the AI and not me doing it. Next time I double, The PnR is played perfect and CJ didn’t come off of DLo. Rubio misses the 3. And he does again next possession. I hop on the Mic after going up and tell the guy he can’t quit now. I get a bucket with Nurkic on the PnR to go up 54-50. I sneak in a 2-3 zone with about a minute to go. He does the same thing he was doing last game with Young. Tried to come off the aggressive dribble denial near center court fast into the lane. Passes into the corner. Picked off. I hit a 3 on the break with Dame. 57-50. He gets a 2pt then I turn the ball over. Another turnover. I hit a mid range shot with CJ with 3 seconds left. Okay I shouldn’t have done that but he’s playing full court defense and idk if he’s tryna foul me so he can pause and quit. The mid was off balance and like 15% contested too. Not a guarantee it goes down. He Disconnects. Now I’m reciting this game from memory. I like to go back through my games and look at shot charts then go through the log and rewatch 75% of the game.

That game was the prime example why I don’t believe there’s rubber banding or fixed outcomes in multiplayer video games. I got into a debate with another poster on here a few years ago about this in MLB The Show. He tried saying “I used to be a top player there’s no way I’m losing to bums that pitch a fastball down the middle and I line drive it out” in which I’d argue it’s strictly RNG and in The Shows’ case, it can be awful sometimes when there’s good hard contact, the exit velocity is like 100+ but it’s popped up into LF. We really only notice these things when it’s a tight game with a minute left and miss an open three with Dame. Followed up by a blown assignment on defense then a turnover in traffic on the next and now the 2pt deficit turns into a 6pt game with 20 seconds left. Or in madden with dropped picks or a bad pass etc..

I was a top 100 MUT player last year in November and not once did I feel like I lost to an inferior player because of the game. As a matter of fact I felt as though I had a 99% success rate against inferior players. I can usually point to where I was pressing too much trying to hit that post route or on defense I took a few bad gambles. It was Madden or 2k making my opponent find open players downfield or open 3pters in the corner. Sometimes the RNG Gods give us a tough hole to find our ways out of, especially in 2k where every shot is up to RNG. At least in Madden I could count on an accurate QB throwing the ball where I wanted it. I just had to make that read. 2k is a bitch when I get an open shot that I really need and I miss. Then miss another. Especially infuriating when it’s under the basket with a 70 something ovr player. They’re still NBA players. Had one with Jake Laymen last night where I cheesed my way around Domantis Sobinas for a layup. 5% contested (it was wide open). Missed.

I look forward to not reading your 3 post long dissertation on your experiences like the previous poster

That’s a good price point. 2k is one of those games I like to play to burn time with and enjoy in small stretches of time otherwise it gets very frustrating fast.

Think i've finally found a jumpshot that I can do pretty consistently. About damn time

Base 98, 51% Ray Allen R1, 49% Steph Curry R2, 4/4 speed. Release right after ball gets to the forehead. Feels good man, feels good
