They don't tell you what the difference is between the two modes other than "This mode targets framerate" or "this mode targets performance."

Ok, what changes? Is it just the framerate? Does it affect textures? Does the lighting change? What about the shaodws?

I might be willing to sacrifice 60 FPS in the name of visuals if I know specifically what I was missing out on.

Any graphical setting could change, and it varies from game to game.

Resolution is the usually the most noticeable reduction.

Look for videos on YouTube channels like Digital Foundry, VG Tech, and ElAnalistaDaBits.

Some context would be helpful

Literally all of them ever.

Some additional context would be helpful regarding these different visual "modes" console games these days.

In some games, it's literally just an increased screen resolution. In others, it's literally the difference between PC equivalent of low/medium settings and high.

Do these games not also have individual settings for graphics? If not, chalk one up for the PCMR, I guess.
