You dont have to pay though. Like the other guy said, everyone has a different definition of P2W and I am confident that when people think of WOW they dont say, "oh, that is a P2W game" before trying it like they do with Korean games.
Further, I know all about the wow token and all that. That stuff as been around since vanilla.
I was trying to make the argument that if you consider Ark P2W then you would also consider WOW/FF/League P2W as well.

Well...yeah...
To go back to the main point,
Lost Ark's business model is extremely similar to Black Desert Online. An optional "sub" model that provides passive boons with all the nice aesthetics behind one-time purchases. The trick is the nice skins also provide stats. But yeah it's not pay2win.

I easily spent $$ on a lvl boost for a new toon in FF because I skipped all the cutscenes on my main and wanted to replay the story.
I basically flew through ARR,HW,SB as an over powered beast.
Now it was just so I could focus on story and get as much done as quick as possible so I can play Endwalker on my main.
I don’t have an issue with the option to boost a character. It’s your money and experience. It doesn’t affect me. Not In my game of choice that is.
I would only ever care if it gave advantages in a PVP setting.
I don’t know much about Lost Ark but I’d assume they have to make money some how. How that happens I don’t know...
I do know that a monthly sub is important to the quality and life span of a good MMO. Wow and FF for example. If you like the MMO you play...you better hope they have systems in place to continue to be profitable. Apparently Lost Ark has been going on for 3 or 4 years so maybe they have got the Free to play formula down to keep it going. It seems that would be an incredible feat for a F2P Korean MMO to make it mainstream in the west.

Till they get in a dungeon with you and don't know what the frick they are doing. To avoid this you do only guild runs. Then new players say they can't find groups and quit. Game dies.
