Sarge I am sorry you are headed back to Polk. That place can really bring the suck! It was bad when my soldier’s favorite hangout was in front of the Wal-Mart. I used to make the trip back home every weekend that we were not in the field.

I have an insanely old pair of Nike Fusion Runs and I ran 10 & 11 miles.

Because I'm fat and I don't run the entire time. I'll average a little over 5 mph the first 2.5 miles and a little over 3 mph the rest of the time.

Do you run on a track or on the road. Also, Nike running shoes suck. Which makes no sense since the founder was a runner. Get you a solid pair of NB's or asics to run in.
I would also tell you to cut that crap out. Mix it up 3-4 miles mixed with sprints is how you will burn calories. Quarter mile track, Jog a mile to warm up then sprint the straight aways and almost walk around the turns for 1-2 miles then another mile jog.
The sprints also help kill the boringness of running on a track

I used to love New Balance (still do really) but I got some Saucony brand running shoes and man...it was like wearing pillows on my feet. Very breathable too.

i use the forest gump method
when i start to feel out of shape i run to the west side of texas and back(BAREFOOTED) for toughness
