Summoning raises the HP of the boss.

If you summon and they get killed, it's next to impossible to beat some of the bosses due to the extra (i think its 1/3) HP they get from the summon.

My rule of thumb first playing it, fight the boss around 10 times before summoning. You really start to learn the patterns after mulltiple attempts, and should get better every time. Make sure to watch the bosses patterns, windups, etc. Some are better dodged straight at them, others to the side, backwards, etc.

Also, if you are having trouble with one in a certain area, go around farming echoes and vials and level up around 5 or so levels (mainly to the stat that scales with your weapon and vitality for HP) and try again. Also, note that sometimes rolling to dodge is better (non locked on O button) than quick stepping when locked on.

Part of the brilliance of this game is the bleak nature of dying and dying over and over to a boss, then finally taking him down solo, it's an addicting rush that 3 years later still gives me that "wow" factor of emotions.

I started a new playthrough going bloodtinge and skill (just got the simon's bowblade early, and going after th chikage now) and it's like a whole new game. My first playthough I did STR, then quality Arcane with Holy Moonlight Sword which was awesome.

So much replay value.

Also a word of advice you may not know. Transform attacks hit harder than regular. Do an attack combo (R1, R1, etc) then on the third swing press L1 to transform the weapon, it's a unique attack that also gets the weapon to the transformed mode, and hits harder than just spamming r1. (it also opens up beasthood but thats advanced for now) Get good at using transform combos back and forth. (R1, L1, R1, R1, L1, etc) It will open up the game immensely and change how you approach fights. Really you can do them however you want, just start adding L1 to your combos and experimenting with it.

I've been stuck at the Blood Starved Beast for a week now. Every time I get him to a quarter health left he goes crazy with that poison and I just can't hit him anymore before having to heal and cure myself. It pushed me to taking a break and now I'm back on a Fortune kick.

I keep summoning the NPC for help but maybe I'll try to Solo it bc I didn't know that increased the boss health.

I try not to google too much because I don't want to have anything spoiled but I'm struggling with the weapon upgrades in this game. Not really sure what all the blood gems do and what each is for.

Also, I saw someone mention a visceral attack. What is that?

You can beat BSB with pungent blood cocktails, throw one in a corner and wail away, repeat

If you parry by shooting the gun in the middle of an enemy attack animation, you will hear a noise and the enemy will go to the ground on a knee, at that moment if you walk up to them and press R1 you will do a super strong visceral attack (it's the strongest in the game). You basically turn your hand into a beast hand and reach inside the enemy and rip their heart out, spewing blood everywhere.

It's a key mechanic in the game. You can also trigger one by doing a charged backstab with R2 in the back of an enemy.

Definitely practice this and get it down. It'll improve your life exponentially.

Definitely. A good place to practice is central yarham, right before the elevator to father G. There's two big guys with bricks that are pretty rough to take down at first, practice the gun parry on these, bc when you land it, it's a one shot kill on them. Soon you will reach a point where you can parry these guys the first time every time. hint: bait their attacks and fire the gun when their arm is at the highest point in the air.

Once you get the parry down, the game becomes way easier, you can also parry most bosses.

I'm the same way, but I've had to give in a couple times so fat because I was stuck somewhere and didn't know where to go from there.

There's so many different paths to take in this game it's easy to end up somewhere just kind of going, "ok, what now?"

Did not know this. No wonder that last half of that fight sucked so much.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. Luckily he only had a quarter of health left and I was able to finish him off.

Im at the Woods boss room, been swept away to a nightmare by a hidden god, and just found a summons to another zone i have only heard little about.

The storytelling in this game is phenomenal. DS3 really taught me to pay attention to details, but BB is paying off that work so much more. The story is much more linear and easier to follow, more fleshed out, though theres still alot left to discovered since i assume im around midgame. But shite is really getting weird.

Well that makes sense. The item description seems like it was written for this guy. Definitely will give this method a try.

Guess i have to just keep trying to parry. I just can't get the timing down yet.

Last night I'm in the Forbidden Woods trying to figure out how to open that gate that's right past the lamp. I've got about 60,000 blood echos. I come up to path and decide to just see what's down there before heading back to the lamp so I can level up. Next thing I know 3 dudes start shooting fire and rush me like they're super pissed. I panic and try to leave but of course the fog is blocking me. I turn back around and am surrounded. Shadows of Yarnham made quick work of me

Big ol' NOPE from me on exploring shady paths with a ton of Blood echoes.

Sounds like it's time to run in and retrieve them and then Bold Hunter your arse outta there.

I lost 80,000 blood Echoes once from that point on I don't risk it.

Also once you get runes they have a few that give you more echoes so eventually with that you can farm around 15k in under 2 minutes from a certain lamp

One mechanic The Surge had that I wish was here is the ability to "bank" your echoes (Tech Scrap in that game). When you returned to the home station you could deposit your scrap and it would be safe there. It seems like it would remove all the risk from farming, but they also put a timer on corpse running so that you had to speed back to get your lost scrap before it disappeared. Kind of balanced it.

I didn't get to play at all yesterday, so I'm really ready to get home and enter the Woods tonight.

Also, I started off with the Hunter Axe, but I've since picked up The Threaded Cane and I'm fully vested in that weapon now. There is absolutely nothing more satisfying than chain whipping the shite out of bad guys, plus it looks amazingly badass with fire paper applied.

That being said, are there any other Skill based weapons you seasoned vets suggest so that I can have some variety?

Bloodborne doesnt have this, but keep in mind all the "coldblood" items you get are consumable items that give you blood echoes and they stay with you after death. (the item before you use it not the echoes gained from it) Sometimes I forget i have these and have like 50k+ echoes just sitting in my inventory until I consume them.

The saw clever is by far the best weapon in the game.
It scales with STR and SKILL. Pure skill, the cane is best at first (and viable through the whole game if you are focusing on skill) but you can also use the saw spear which you can find in the sewer or buy after you get the saw badge. It's basically a skill version of the saw clever. Blades of mercy is also good a skill weapon but the way to get it is a bit shrouded in a quest line. But it's a FAST awesome weapon you can dual wield. I'm doing a new playthrough and going for the chikage (katana) but it's sort of mid/late game before you can reach it.
