I unplugged it, but the icon like urs is still there? I'm still not sure how to switch it to always use the amd card, sorry for being dumb.
Well it popped up to switch graphics when you unplugged it right?
If the icon is there then you know it's on the Intel GPU and not the AMD...
If it's not there, then you're on the AMD GPU.
As for turning off the switchable graphics, mines in the Catalyst Control Center, not sure why yours isn't.

The disk drivers are usually months old. Open Catalyst from your lower right menu bar and under "information" there should be a "software update" option.

One thing I tried to do was dl the latest drivers for my card, but it kept saying it wasn't compatible with it. So i figured out I had to get it from the manufactures website. This may be why it's different. Also I tried to dl the auto detect thing and it won't even run at all. I don't even see information on here?

Yeah the auto-detect thing doesn't work for the 7xxx series cards.
AMD sucks, pretty much.
Awful driver support, you are pretty much screwed.
Just go by the tray icon and at least you'll know when you are on Intel and when you are on AMD.

The problem is the icon is always there regardless if I unplug or not and nothing pops up to ask me to switch? So I can never update my drivers from the amd site? It can only come from my manufactures website? are those driver even any good? I just don't get why they wouldn't have support for their newer cards wtf

That sucks, but it's very common.
You are most likely not even using the AMD GPU.
Google your graphics card+drivers and if it's like mine, you will find a ton of pissed of forum people trying to fix it.

So I googled this, and found quite a few pissed off Alienware owners having the same issues with this card.
Looks like the best thing you can do is to do a clean wipe of the AMD drivers and install the latest 12.7 beta driver and the AMD CAP.
1. Open the Start Menu, type “device manager” in the searchbox and press .
2. Click the arrow next to “Display adapters” to expand the filter.
3. Right-click the AMD Graphics Card and select “Uninstall”.
4. Check the “Delete the driver software for this device” box and click OK to proceed.
5. Once the driver is uninstalled, restart your computer and repeat the process until Standard VGA adapter shows up instead of the AMD Graphics Card (this is done in order to avoid any traces from past drivers).
6. Open the Start Menu, type “programs and features” in the searchbox and press .
7. Search the list of installed programs for any AMD Software and uninstall it. Restart and repeat this step until no AMD software shows up in the list.
8. Restart your computer, at the Alienware Logo screen press .
9. At the Advanced Boot Options, press the arrow key to highlight “Safe Mode with networking”, press .
10. Run driver sweeper, check the box for “AMD display”, click Clean, then restart your computer.
11. Open the Start Menu, type “regedit” in the searchbox and press .
12. In the “Registry Editor” go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
13. Look for a folder named “AMD” or “ATI”, right-click to delete it.
14. Restart your computer.
15. Download the driver and install it and you’re good to go

They all ship like that, terrible driver support from AMD. If you call AMD they'll tell you it's Dell/HP's job to provide the Drivers, if you call them they will tell you it's AMD's job.
Many Envy 17's have the same issues with our 7960m cards (same as a 7970m) and I did the steps I posted above, a full clean system wipe, and installed the latest Beta and CAP, and it's much much better and works fine.

Well I bought my laptop from Ibuypower. It's not from dell or anything. Will these steps still apply to me too? I'm just scared to uninstall because I don't want something to go wrong.

Yes, I just listed Dell/HP because most of their gaming systems ship with the AMD 7xxx series cards like yours did, which AMD offers little to no driver support for, and obviously your manufacturer doesn't either.
Do those steps, nothing is going to go wrong, it's just going to reinstall the new AMD 12.7beta drivers and the profile for it.

There was no folder just said default? Is that ok

Yeah I was about to say there should be.

i dled the beta and tried to run and it said installer integrity check has failed. Common cause include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installers author to obtain a new copy?? It was an NSIS error? Is that a bad link because the cap didn't give me an error, I didn't install it yet though.

Nevermind I even tried it from AMD directly and got the same error, seems like it's broken right now.
Go here and just download 12.6, screw the Beta for now, you can try it later.
