20 cents?

Your math is worse than his.

That is two Tenths of a cent (.2 cents)

20 cents would be, well, 20 cents or $.2

And 2 cents would be 2 Cents, or $.02

The .20 cents was correct, because by the time PSN is back online inflation will have lowered it to 0.02 cents.

Sony is so screwed. No excuse for not even having the level of security that is fairly standard for run of the mill ecommerce sites.

quote:

According to Spafford, security experts monitoring open Internet forums learned months ago that Sony was using outdated versions of the Apache Web server software, which "was unpatched and had no firewall installed." The issue was "reported in an open forum monitored by Sony employees" two to three months prior to the recent security breaches, said Spafford.

Spafford made his comments in a hearing convened by the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade. Sony was invited to participate in the hearing, but declined to attend. In a letter to the committee, Sony said it has added automated software monitoring and enhanced data security and encryption to its systems in the wake of the recent security breaches.

"If Dr. Spafford's assessment is accurate, it's inexcusable that Sony not only ran obsolete software on servers containing confidential data, but also that the company continued to do so after this information was publicly disclosed," said Jeff Fox, Consumer Reports Technology Editor.

And just like that Sony just lost the next consoles war. I know I'm screwed now that I have actually bought into blu ray. FML.

Forget the next generation. There are enough consumers annoyed with Sony that they've allegedly sold their PS3's and bought consoles from the competition. I don't know if PS3 can ever recover from this. Then when you look at how much the stock has dropped, it's pretty discouraging. Games aren't moving off the shelves. I know I've personally decided not to buy games until PSN is restored. How many of us are in that same boat?

Then on top of that, Sony is going to have to deal with lawsuits. I certainly blame the hackers, but there's enough there to say they were negligent about security. That's where much of the fodder for the lawsuits arises.

PS3 will be fine if they get PSN back up soon. I think this will end up being a blip on the radar for PS3. I use my PS3 first to watch NetFlix and DVDs, which I still can do, and 2nd to play sports games which I also can still do offline of course. Anyone who would consider a PS3 as a future purchase is probably more like me than a hardcore game and might not even remember the PSN hack when Christmas roles around.

PS4 is what is potentially hurt. The hardcore gamers and early adopters will not forget and may well switch allegiances over this. That would be bad for Sony when they launch the PS4. What they need to do is a sincere mea culpa then set the new industry standard for user security best practices. Unfortunately for them I doubt they go that direction.

I'm not at all a hardcore gamer, nor do I play online much. I'm really not affected by this whole thing, but I will think hard before sticking with them come next gen. I've already invested in blu rays, and I'm not going to have multiple black boxes on my entertainment center. I may be stuck with Sony for the long haul. At least I'll still be able to play the Show!

I've lost a good bit of respect for Sony after this, I will more than likely not buy any more of their consoles.
