Everything out/known about FF16 and remake part 2 lead me to believe both with be spectacular. FF16 looks to finally play into a more mature adult audience like type-0 it also gives a vibe as being a send off to the “crystal” backdrop they’ve been leaning on forever. The Yuffie dlc for remake part one was so freaking awesome it’s a shame it only landed on ps5 so a lot of people probably haven’t played it but the game in general just has one of the best Jrpg style combat systems ever imo. It appears they’re taking the story in a new interesting direction, at least I think so. People who want a direct carbon copy of FF7 with ps5 graphics might not be as thrilled. All that said it’s likely both will only be exclusive for a year then land on Xbox as well.

I am sure there were a few people that wanted this but I just wanted to get back into that world with graphics that suited the story. I never finished the remake pt. 1 simply because I didn't want it to end. I will pick up a PS5 with the updated FF7 remake right before the 2nd part is released.

Idk how you managed that I sped through it at launch on normal to take in the whole story then did a more deliberate play through on hard to 100% and master the intricacies of the combat systems which are actually really deep on higher difficulties . That being said I think stretching 5 hours of Midgar from the original to a full 25 hour game came with ups and downs. The biggest up was definitely getting all kinds of backstory on tangential characters from the original, Jessie in particular was a highlight to me she is like a walking thirst trap. They definitely packed that shite with nostalgia moments in beautifully rendered modern cut scenes and suprisingly kept goofier shite I though would never work in a modern game like the HellHouse fight which is bitch and a half on hard. The downs were it felt too long at times specially the side quest which other than Chadly all sucked. Even levels that were kinda cool like train graveyard from the original being reimagined felt way too long. A lot of people bitched about the final chapter basically separating from the OG timeline but I like it as it gives them the freedom to tell a new story instead of just the same one we all know. The Yuffie Dlc is where the game hits another gear though and really shows square is invested in this from a creative standpoint in both story and gameplay as it expands on the materia load outs and combat mechanics with how she handles. With the next games coming on Ps5 I’d be shocked if they can’t finish it in 3 parts.

I’ll say I’m happy with their move to PC minus the shitty store, it saves me a lot of money and don’t have to buy any of their hardware. Sony has still been releasing more hits or games to my taste so far this early generation with Returnal being one of the best new games I’ve played in the last couple years. Their Fall does look nice, and Psychonauts 2 has been fun the short time I’ve spent with it but so far they haven’t released much.

Agree about the sidequests. I wanted way more sidequests in the open world section of the game, but I would settle for the ones they did have being more interesting/fulfilling. They made FFXV’s side quests look good.

Agreed about some levels being too long. Hojo’s lab was the worst. I thought that level would never end. I actually loved the train graveyard.

I’ve still got the PS5. The exclusives are too good

What are the best PS5 exclusives? I doubt that I’m going to be able to afford to invest in a PS5 any time soon (thinking about getting a backwards compatible PS3 or a 360), but I probably will get one eventually for Final Fantasy.

I loved the train graveyard too it was just

Spoilers tag since someone above mentioned not finishing the game yet and idk where he left off. I’ll also spoil the final battle

Way too long. The level design was great and beautiful and the ghost worked in from the original was super cool and visually stunning and I liked both bosses being new and fresh although Elgor or whatever his name is might’ve been a regular mob from OG I can’t remember. I also think it was pretty bold for them to lean into Sephiroth so much in part 1 and having us fight him I feel like wasn’t a good choice probably but they might find a way to make it work. In the original he was so great as a character because he was this mythical unstoppable force you chased around and he was capable of doing things our party wasn’t. Now we have dunked on him alreqdy.

I love my PS5 but as far as really needing one right now the best thing on it you can’t also play on PS4 (like Ghost of Tsushima) is the Yuffie Dlc and playroom. Horizon sequel is the biggest thing coming that will 100% forever only be on PS other anticipated titles will be timed exclusives only and will meander to PC
