I’m playing through SMT nocturne as we speak and it’s surprisingly excellent

Anyone played 5 the most recent one, and is it the same bar of quality? Thanks

Yes, it is really good. I have it on my Switch and 5 is fantastic. I love the mix of exploration, fusing, and combat!

Thanks for replying

I have close to 4000 hours combined in persona 3 reloaded persona 4 golden and persona 5 royal outside of playing metaphor refantazio I have never really experienced the push turn combat system of SMT

Someone said the remaster of nocturne was a good place to start so I started it last night, I loved it so much I played non stop until I got to matador where I beat him after 5 or tries then went to bed.

I really love the story of the game, its very demonic, cult stuff. It is also cool how sometimes the demons can be your actual friends as opposed to persona where theyre more like your slaves

SMT V is great. They did make a major change to physical skills though - they cost MP instead of HP which hurts using physical skill demons because of their having a low MP pool.

Yeah I’m loving nocturne so much

I have heard it said a million times Matador is this insanely hard fight and causes some people to even drop the game.

Idk man that seems super overblown.

To be fair I was aware of it because of its reputation so I made it priority to ensure my own character knew Sukunda and Saskaua to lower his accuracy and raise the partys plus I had a Bicron with both moves as well.

I was level 16 when I fought him and it only took me 5 attempts on hard

I'm coming at it the opposite way... I've played 5 (although I still haven't beaten it, I'm about 25 hours in) and I liked it so much that I bought Nocturne and have been playing that recently. I am still in the first 5-10 hours or so of Nocturne, but I think if you like it you will love 5!

Are the stories of SMT connected?

Like are they a linear set of one narrative? Or are they all stand alone games like an anthology or final fantasy?

I knew next to nothing about Nocturne when I bought it when it came out other than I loved P3-5. Because of that I knew nothing about Matador and was not set up for him at all and he destroyed me. I eventually was able to get a good demon party that worked against him but man he was frustrating.

Yeah I had heard so many different horror storys about him so from the literal start of the game I was prioritizing making sure my protagonist learned Sakunda to drop down his agilty since he opens with 4 stacks, then I fused a Bicorn that had both Sakunda and Sakuja so he could help drop matadors stacks or he could raise the partys agility stacks.

I also set up my stats from the jump just to confront him dumping them rotating from 1 point in agility then 1 in strength back and forth

I looked up what element he used so for my final two demons I used two that were resistant to force.

maybe i cheated a slight bit but once I got the rhythm down of when to attack and when to either lower his or raise my agility i beat him easily. I think it was my 5th go around.

I went to bed once I beat him and haven’t jumped back in yet, I’m not that far into the game am I?

As far as I know, they are all stand-alone stories even though the themes and plots between the ones I've played (4, 5, and Nocturne) are similar. I have yet to beat any of them though so it is possible the "universes" are connected.

Oh okay

I just pulled into the driveway from work and my wife will be at church basically for the next 4 hours

I’m about to immediately plop right back down into nocturne. I was so hooked into what was happening after I beat matador but haven’t been able to pick it up since then so that’s where I’m picking up at

Feels like something big is coming
